Ibuprofen suspension (sub for motrin) 100 mg/5ml 2 and 1/2 teaspoon Every

six hours or as needed.

HEADACHE MEDICATIONS:

Prior to surgery- received the best relief from tylenol with codeine.

Motrin was given for break through pain.

Katlyn was also taking diamoxx that seemed to help. Diamoxx was

discontinued on the day of her third

decompression/odontoidectomy.

Post surgery - (Once released from the hospital) she took valium/tylenol

with codeine. At six months post op it was realized that she needed to

continue on some sort of pain relief so the choice was made to change her to

vioxx and midrin. These two medications have made such a difference for

her -- even in regards to her concentration for school work.

If you are in chronic pain (24/7/365 days), See about trying Duragesic

(Fentanyl) Patches. They last 72 hrs at a time and have few side effects.

It is a narcotic, but is not as addictive as most. I have been using it and

it has been a life saver! The other nice thing about it is it is just meant

to bring you back to a somewhat " normal " level. You can still use another

pain reliever with it occasionally for brak-thru pain if necessary. Cool

huh? It comes in 5 different strengths. And the best part - no lapses in

My husband uses Duragesic for his cancer pain, it does work small miracles without affecting your general senses. No fuzzy brain syndrom from pain meds.

I have suffered from migraine type headaches since my youth. They are not

true migraines because they don't pound, just constantly hurt. Neither am I

ultra sensitive to light and sound like true migraine suffers. However, if

I don't medicate them, I will end up throwing up repeatedly and they do

completely incapacitate me.

OTC analgesics such as aspirin and Ibuprofen only help a tad. I have tried

all the normal prescription migraine stuff and found it of little help. (I

haven't tried the real new stuff.) The only effective non-morphine med that

I have found for mine is high doses of caffeine. However, I found for it to

be the most effective, that I cannot use it at all unless it is for

headaches. (no cola, coffee or tea)

I also have critical insomnia and caffeine even in low doses of 25 mg can do

a number on it. At times I have used 1500 mg during an attack, but commonly

I try to keep it down to the minimum, usually around 50-100. Mine are also

helped by the fact that I also use Inderal, (propranalol, generic) as a high

blood pressure med and a heart rate controller, which also reduces the

severity of chronic migraines. It will not stop an attack, but just reduces

the severity and number of attacks.

None of the herbal meds I have tried do anything to help.

I have suffered since my teens I have tried

everything.It seems to me that fiorcet is the only

headache remedy except for Toradol,Ask your Doc.Hope

you can find some relief with one of these

if they are REALLY REALLY bad, I have an on going script from my GP :-) to go to ER and get injections of Nubane with either compazine or vistoral. I don't need to call him and neither does the hospital. It's in my records.....ordered by him.. And if I go to different er all they do is call him. And then it's in their records too. What I take for chronic right now that kinda works......it at least dulls it is Zydone. If you are like me with many many meds under your belt, there are very few things beside triple scripts that will take away all pain. Though let me tell you, it would be nice to be pain free if just for a few hours...lol. So far since surgery I've only given in 3 times and gone to er. I can't wait till it is available by prescription......i don't care if it is a needle or not!!!! Another really good med is Stadol NS. It's a morphine der. BUT it is available WITHOUT triple script. Good Luck finding what's right for you!!! Hope I have been of some help.
