Guest guest
can you elaborate? I don't put much stock in reviewers/critics....I did read this..that Adam supposedly possessed more " quirks " than anything else and seemed to be more quirky so shouldn't be taken seriously as having any serious condition like aspergers. Since I can't rem, ember where I read this I cannot quote verbatim but that's the gist. Its good to hear your feedback if possible for you. Guest guest
Hmm, hard to explain, it was a love story, he meets an NT girl in his apt. building in NY, they fall in love, meanwhile the girl's father gets into legal trouble for fraud or something, so she is dealing w/ that, and well, I can't spoil it, you really need to see it. > can you elaborate? > I don't put much stock in reviewers/critics....I did read this..that Adam > supposedly possessed more " quirks " > than anything else and seemed to be more quirky so shouldn't be taken > seriously as having any serious > condition like aspergers. Guest guest
I would contest this COMPLETELY- it sounds like this reveiwer has never met someone with an Aspergers Dx if he thought Adam was just quirky. Either that, or the reviewer (I think I remember this review) is simply one of those people who don't believe in the Asperger's Dx, or would rather call people quirky, rude, etc, rather than have it be something that is a " disability " . The biggest flaw was instead that he seemed like a compilation of several different people on spectrum rather than one individual. He had too MANY typical ASD characteristics, if any flaw could be found. I would doubt familiarity with those on spectrum for anyone that would deny that this character is on Spectrum. > > > > > > > Well, I finally saw " Adam " last night w/ a support group for spectrumites > > that I am involved w/. He had too MANY typical ASD characteristics, if any flaw could be found. That's normal for film characters though - look at Rainman as the prime example. It's because the focus is on ASD not on a *person*. I just read a book, fiction, where the story revolved around an autistic boy. He wasn't a main character, but necessary to the plot. Everything that referred to the kid only referred to autistic traits, and I came away from the book feeling that I'd read about a textbook description of autism rather that a little boy. Ruth -- " Environmental problems are difficult to solve because Earth is a " public good " . Even though we would all be better off if everyone reduced their environmental impact, it is not in anyone's individual interest to do so. This leads to the famous " tragedy of the commons " , in which public resources are overexploited and everyone suffers.
