I wanted to welcome you to the group. The time spent in the band varies by every baby. My daughter was originally told about 5 months but she graduated after 3 months.

It is great that he is fully turning his head both directions! i believe they do measurements on the consultation. I'm sure you will receive many replies. Please let us know how Thursday goes.

New - plagio & tort

I have 16 week old b/g twins. My son has been going to physical therapy for about a month now b/c of torticollis. He finally has started fulling turning his head in both directions - never any pain involved just only kept it one way. The ped. has now suggested a DOC band b/c one side is becoming flat and the other has a bulge. We have an appt. on Thursday at Cranial Tech. Will they do a diagnosis first? They told me to expect 3-6 months in the band but it seems like his age group spends only 2 months. Any insight? My concern is the closest location is on average 1 1/2 drive and I work full time plus have his twin sister and older daughter. They said I might have to take him every week - at best - every other week. Thank you.For more plagio info

Like Angie said, time does vary. My daughter received her first DOC band at 4.5

months. We were originally told 6-10 weeks. She was in #1 for 4 weeks. Then

we had a 2 week break waiting for DOC band #2 to come in. She grew out of #1.

She has been in #2 for 6 weeks. We find out Friday how much longer. It could

be another 6 weeks. Her growth was really fast from 4 months to 5.5 months. It

has now slowed down considerably. So, it all depends on the growth of the head.

Fast growers finish faster. Younger babies tend to be fast growers. Also, the

faster they are growing the more frequently you need to go in for adjustments.

We went every week for #1 and went every week for the 1st couple weeks in #2.

Now we are every 2 weeks. We drive 2.5 hours each way. I too work full time,

but do not have any other children. You may be able to arrange appointments so

you can leave your other children in their regular daycare arrangements. I was

taking a full day off for each appointment and scheduling them around 10:30 AM.

Now, I'm taking a half day off and scheduling then around 3 PM.

You had to pay another full amount for the 2nd band right? Which of course is still not cov'd by insurance. I have scheduled his first 2 appts when I have coverage for the other 2 so I am taking a day off work. I wish I could take just 1/2 day off but the drive from Balto to VA has horrible traffic since I have to take 495 by DC. A 3 p.m. appt would put me driving home during rush hour which could make the 1 1/2 drive become 3-4. I am planning on having to go weekly since he is so young. My husband is going to make arrangements to take him a few times for the f/u adjustments but I want to be with him for the first 2 hour long ones. Can I please ask a shallow question - do people stare and ask ignorant questions. I am a circus show when I go out as it is with the twins and a 3 year old - you can't imagine the questions I am asked now.filyaw@... wrote:

Hi ,

Yes, I had to pay full price for both. We just found out last week that insurance will actually be paying 100% (with $20 copay) under durable medical equipment. We have to re-file for DOC band #2 but hopefully that will go through OK.

I understand the DC traffic problem. I used to live in Richmond and drive to Philly twice a month. I would time it to avoid DC rush hour.

You may also want to take your husband or someone for the casting. It usually helps to have an extra set of hands (especially if you want a picture or two).

I will not sugar coat it, people sometimes stare and they sometimes ask stupid questions or say mean things. However, most of us have found that if you decorate the band it gets a much nicer response. People say hi and smile and talk to your baby. It also offers you the opportunity to educate the public. na thinks everyone knows her name because it's on her forehead, LOL! She gives them one of her $1M smiles and they forget all about the helmet. After awhile you don't even notice. I actually laugh inside at the people that crane their necks and almost walk into things. I think the same people shop at Wal-Mart when I do because now I don't even get funny looks or not as many or I don't notice.

So the circus will continue, but I'm sure you will handle it just fine. : )
