Guest guest
Pody, Can you refresh my memory? What kind of helmet did Nick have? only wore hers for 9 weeks, so depending on Nick's age, that might not be crazy (the younger they are, the quicker they tend to round out). We went straight from 23 hours a day to no band. Hope that helps! Kerri from NY 's mom (DOCgrad) > HI There, > > I joined and then could not post as this group is soooo big! Guest guest
My son is in the process of weaning from his STARband. He wears it 12 hours a day (basically, while he sleeps at night) and in a few weeks we'll go back and have his head scanned (our location has a STARscanner) to make sure he isn't regressing any. Do you have the scanning option at your orthodist's office? If so, you might want to try something like we're doing. It definitely gives me peace of mind to know that he's sleeping with the helmet on right now! Guest guest
Hi Pody! I'm happy you posted to our group & happier to hear Nick is done with his band He's adorable, I just checked out his photos. Regression is very rare. How old is Nick? It's more common, although still rare, in younger infants while they're heads are still so soft & malleable. I've been w/the group 3 yrs and have only heard of a few cases of regression. If you're concerned about it, I'd suggest taking bi-weekly pictures of his head to monitor any changes. Otherwise, enjoy a band free baby!! Guest guest
We have never had him scanned, hmmm the cranio facial specialist we have been seeing is the one who said he didn't need it anymore. We would go to another place to have the helmet adjusted..the Starband is the one with the little star logo? right?. I am worried about him sleeping w/o it, as if his head is till re- shapable (sp?) wouldn't that also work as in not letting it shape still?. Also, he is so free wheeling with the helmet on, now we are gonna get the head crashing thime eh?. Pody
Guest guest
Hi Pody: That is unusual for your specialist to determine if you're done or not. It's usually the orthotist's or the parent's ultimate decision. Are YOU happy with the correction he's rec'd or do you think he could still benefit from the band? Have you discussed this with your orthotist yet? If the helmet is still fitting ok and you're uneasy about taking it off, maybe keep it on thru the weekend, call your orthotist Monday and see what he recommends? It certainly wouldn't hurt to do this as long as it's still fitting fine which it sounds like it is. Yes, the STARband does have a star symbol imprinted somewhere on the outside of the band. It did look like the STARband from his photo. Debbie > We have never had him scanned, hmmm the cranio facial specialist we > have been seeing is the one who said he didn't need it anymore. Guest guest
Nick was 10 months old on the 9th. His tort is all but gone, and he leans left (his bad side) when stressed out. I am very happy if it is all done..I missed his sweet baby head, I even had been kissing the helmet as of late lol! (you know while he is in it, kissing eck, and then head aka helmet). I thought the final decision was the doctors? Hmm We will cal on MOnday. We saw her this past Tuesday too. > Hi Pody! > I'm happy you posted to our group & happier to hear Nick is done with > his band He's adorable, I just checked out his photos. > Regression is very rare. Guest guest
With us it was our decision and the orthos. Jenna wore a STARband from 9 to 12 months. We did see the specilaist at the end of treaTment and he thought she was done at the same time we had already decided to graduate. Guest guest
Pody, did you ever make that call to the ortho? How did it go?
