Guest guest
Hello, I am a newbie with a few questions. First, what is syrinx? Second exactly what type of MRI do I need my neurologist to order? I have had SOOOO many from this very Dr. I really don't want to have more of the same if they cannot dx Chiari. I did read that a person could have Chiari and not know until adulthood, right? Would a severe blow to the head bring it out? OK getting long now, sorry. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hugs and Light, T~
Guest guest
Hi T, and group Seems like there have been some questions about a syrinx. I would like to tell everyone what the scecialist have told me but in laymans terms (if you don't mind :-} Spinal fluid comes down from arond the brain and circulates arond the spinal cord, it then goes back up into the head and repeats this process. When you have chiari..the herniation blocks the flow right at the base of the brain. It usually or sometimes plugs or stops up the opening totally for awhile, The fluid will build up in the head, around the brain until it finally has a path out and, it then comes rushing out in a big gush. There is so much of it at one time that the body doesan't know how to deal with it and so it eventually adapts by creating a canal like sac inside the spinal cord, where the excess fluid goes. This is the explaination I received from Dr Oro. Now, Mayo neuros told me that even though there is that abnormality going on. The fluid inside the syrinx is not stagnant...there is still a flow going on just not in a normal way...slower. I hope this helps in some way...and if anyone ot there finds this is wrong please write. I am only repeating what the docs have said. hugs, Judy Marie
