Guest guest
Does anyone know if there is really a difference between: Atrophic Vaginitis and Lichen Sclerosis? Seems to me they are the same thing but with women not in menopause they call it LS (because we all KNOW that you can't have estrogen problems before menopause! LOL) and with older women they call it AV. Is there any tests that confirm one or the other? I mean, do they look different pathology wise??? The symtpoms are the same for both including the anal problems. My anal area feels like it is getting smaller and this is causing pain (achiness) and small tears plus a nice hemorrhoid. I say the skin is thinning myself. My front has small paper like tears in the outer lips. The reason I ask is because for LS they want you to use cortizone which in turn thins the skin. If you really have AV then this makes things worse I would think! I'm soooo confused! LOL Lynn

I have sever atrophic vaginitis, but I only have early stage LS. You can get LS without any sort of Estrogen connection. There is a type of LS that is triggered by Estrogen depleation usually during menopause (the type I have) Lichen Sclerosis Atrophicus. I dont know a whole lot about the other type, just that people have seen 3 year old girls with it. Obviously a 3 year old wont be suffering from estrogen depleation. Dee could probably tell you more about LS. Any good URLS Dee? I'll see if I can dig up some myself and ones for Atrophic vaginitis. When you read those you will see the definate difference. LS is actually a skin disorder. Atrophic Vaginitis is caused only from estrogen depleation in the vagina. Hope that helps Bunny /| |\ . .
