Welcome to the group. I have only heard wonderful things about Dr.

Blecher, you're going to be in good hands! The younger a baby is

banded the better and faster the correction. Your baby is at a great

age to receive awesome correction! I never got used to the stares,

they always bothered me. Hopefully you'll be like most here, most

aren't bothered by them.

I used rub on transfers ('s) and clear back stickers (Joann's)

I sealed them with mod podge. Please keep us posted on your little

man. Good luck at the casting appointment.

Hello and welcome to the board! You've come to a great place

for asking questions, getting answers from wonderful people, and tons

of support!

I wish you the best with the casting of the helmet, and yes, it will

be harder on you then . My son, Jaxson, has been in his helmet

since Dec 4 and he doesn't mind it. I, on the other hand, have had a

hard time with it. I too, was afraid of people staring and dreaded

going out with him. I vented a few times on here about the ignorance

out there

Now though, I don't mind at all. I honestly didn't even notice

anyone staring the last time I was out with him. I'm sure there were

plenty of stares, I just ignored it. I WANT people to ask though, and

had a little boy, maybe 8 or 9 ask me one day what it was for. I

thank every person for asking and then I tell them why, briefly.

As far as decorating. I know some paint theirs and I wish we could

have painted ours. But, with the type we have they said no. They heat

the helmet every week for adjustments and we were told the paint

would chip off, etc. So, we use stickers. I was hesitant at first but

now I LOVE the stickers. We change them every week. This week it's

all 30 NHL teams (MN WILD and DETROIT RED WINGS right in front), last

week was all Christmas, the week before was flames and hot rod cars.

Be creative, do whatever you want and have fun decorating. I think

that with it decorated it looks a little less " medical " .

Hi and welcome to the group!! You are on the right track with

what you have done thus far. Dr. Blecher is very highly spoken of

within this group. There are several members at the moment that are

using him in Germany and in England. You are correct in saying that

the band and ignorant people will bother you more than . Just

take a deep breath and relax.

Have you taken a look in our " photo " section of the group? There are

a bunch of decorated bands in there for ideas. I slapped a bow on my

daughters band for decoration, but I don't think that will work for

you. lol Please keep us updated on how is doing and how the

casting goes. To make the casting easier take some of his favorite

things like a pacifer if he takes one, a bottle, a loud toy to

distract him. I used a lollipop for and it worked until it was

gone. I should have brought 2. Remember, the casting only takes

about 10 minutes and it doesn't hurt them at all! Good Luck!

Hi ! Welcome to the group! My daughter, Raegan (also 5 months)

just got her band last week, within 2 days her band was like a part

of her. She cries if we take it off! I keep her helmet decorated

with stickers - I like the ones that are photo safe, I can get them

off easily with rubbing alcohol. We change them every few days to

match her clothing - definately looks a lot less medical.

As for the whole process, it is definately harder on the parents in

my opinion. People will stare, I either ignore them, or tell them

briefly it is to correct a flat spot on her head. Most people, once

they know what it is for either know someone who still has a mishapen

head, or have seen a helmet before and didn't know what it was. The

thing I am most greatful for is that over Christmas, before family

gatherings, everyone was told about Raegan's helmet, including all

the children that we would be seeing. No one reacted to it! In fact

one of the little boys told his grandma how pretty she was, that it

was good we were going to " fix " her head, and that he didn't think

she minded wearing that helmet at all. Knowledge and information are

wonderful at combating those stares and reactions - if a 5 year old

boy can get it, certainly the adults should! Good luck and keep us

posted on how it's going!

Where are you stationed? My husband and I will be moving to

Giebelstadt on 1 February...also military. Did Tricare pay for the

helmet? They didn't here in the states. How far of a drive is it

for you from where you are?

We have contacted Dr. Belcher for continued treatment once we arrive

in Germany. He seemed very pleasant and helpful.

Good luck..it's definitely worth it, although we got started late

due to Tricare problems.

Hi ,

I saw that you have received numerous other postsfrom others using

Dr. Blecher and having Tricare issues, so I want try to add to what

they say. I just wanted to welcome you to the group and to say---

vent a way. That is what we are here for. For every concern you

have, every fear, every worry, every gripe, some one on the group has

shared it. I felt so much better when I joined just to know I was

not alone with this.
