Guest guest
Hi -My eye story... About 10 days ago my eyes started acting funny. I all of a sudden couldn't see the TV or street signs etc. They were very sensitive to light and felt like I had cobwebs in them. I have read all about Diabetic Retinopathy and diabetics going blind overnight. I was in a private hell of fear. Finally on wed it was so bad I made an eye appt. I could barely see to drive there. When the Dr came in I burst into tears and told her I was going blind. I told her I didn't understand why because I had gotten my blood sugar under control in 6 weeks. Down from 11.7 to 6.7 . She said " sometimes when your body is so used to high blood sugar and you bring it down so quickly it can affect your eyes " She said your eyes are 90% water and over the years they get used to the higher blood sugar. Well to make a long story shorter she spent 1 1/2 hrs and said my eyes had no diabetic damage and that I would be fine. It is getting better- like my body is re adjusting to normal levels! What a learning process- Did anyone have to change glasses after being diagnosed. My eyes seem to be getting worse daily. Best Regards, Ratliff
Guest guest
Bob, After I was first diagnosed and started on glucophage my numbers dropped considerably in a short period of time. I could then see better without my glasses than I could with them. It was really strange. My doc said that the blurriness was due to the sudden drop and that it would take some time for my eyes to adjust. He was right It took a good 2 - 3 weeks once my numbers evened out for my eyes to adjust. Then I was able to go right back to my glasses with no difficulties. So, if you are newly diagnosed and your numbers have made a sudden drop you might want to wait out an adjustment period to see what happens. Guest guest
My vision has always been terrible, so it just got a bit better, then settled back to nearly the same as before... I've very nearsighted but also use bifocals. RE: eyes Mine got better right after diagnosis, and then got worse and took about 3 months to stabilize...
