Guest guest
Wow I have been so busy! I have not been able to catch up on all the messages. I graduated from college a week ago, and then Christmas, and on and on and on! I realized I had not updated Carson's picture folder in a while, so I thought I would give you all a belated Christmas gift...a 4 week progress pic. We are truly amazed at his progress. The forehead bossing is unrecognizable to me anymore when looking at him in the face or top of the head down. I can still see some slight assymetry with his cheek and ear, but even those have dramatically improved. His physical therapy is tough, but getting better...his neck is a lot easier to stretch now and he doesn't fight us so bad. He definitely has gotten a lot more ROM. The PT keeps doing the craniosacral therapy on him (sorry about butchering the spelling!) and we are noticing major improvement in the ridging. He does still have the head tilt though-I am wondering when we will start seeing less of that...I notice it more when he is tired. The little booger is trying to crawl now. So far he is only managing a backwards inchworm maneuver but astounded us all by getting up on all fours tonight...he just sat there like, " uh-now what? " . It only lasted a few seconds, but he tried again a couple of more times. He has a follow up appt. tomorrow with the ortho on his helmet and then a PT appt. on Tuesday. I sent off the insurance appeal 5 page letter and 15 pages of supporting articles a couple of weeks ago and have not heard anything yet-I am sure they are sitting there staring at the packet, like " What the heck? Who gave this lady all this info! " He is going to be on television! The local news station is doing a special health segment on him this week and will be videotaping/interview and videotaping before/after pics. Looking forward to getting the message out in our community to help other parents. It will make it seem worthwhile after the dumb*** that offended us at the movies theater on Christmas Day. I was standing in line with the kids for popcorn and hubby was in line for tickets. This boy behind me who looked to be about 10 said to his mother, " Mom- did you see that baby's head?! I sure hope your new baby doesn't have that wrong with his head-that would be awful! " I was about to turn around and politely educate them on Carson's condition, when the mother's ignorance stopped me dead in my tracks...she replied, " I know! Me too! " . I had to go sit down and fight back the tears. I decided not to draw attention to it by saying anything because she was obviously ignorant and nothing I could say would change her mentality and I was trying to protect my daughters (who didn't hear it) because they would be devastated if someone was saying bad things about their baby brother. I cried all night after we got home and got the kids in bed-it hurt so badly that I was too cowardly to put her in her place..but I kept trying to tell myself I held back to protect my kids' feelings and that Carson had no idea what they were saying anyway-it was only me that was hurting. The next day, God sent me an angel...a lady in the mall who made her way through the crowds to tell us that her son had been in a helmet 9 years ago too and was now a happy healthy boy with no memory of the ordeal and they were grateful they did it! That is why I am so thankful that the news station is doing this highlight on his condition...hopefully we can educate the educatable and help one more baby. I'll let you know how the appts. go and the news story. Guest guest
Hi Jenn, Wow, those pictures are amazing! Carson's progress reminds me so much of Hannah's. She had the same side flatness and also saw amazing progress in that first month. I hope it continues for you! At this rate he'll be a grad before you know it. Congrats on your graduation too! How exciting about the news story. You'll be helping so many people. Our newspaper did a front page story on Hannah in July and right up until her graduation in November we'd have people come up to us saying the read her article, etc, etc. Many people thanked us and we even met a baby with a helmet b/c of reading the article (still the only banded baby we've seen in public too!). Sorry about that ignorant lady at the movies. Luckily most people are not like that! I remember a few occasions just burning with anger from rude people like that, but then I'd just look at Hannah happily smiling away and usually decide it wasn't worth letting it bother me. I alwasy figured those would be the same people whose kids would rank on her for having a misshapen head when she was older (and understood that people were making fun of her!)if she hadn't gotten a helmet. Good luck with your interview. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " brad9596 " <brad9596@y...> wrote: > Wow I have been so busy! I just had time to check out Carson's pictures and I just want to tell that his progress is amazing! My son has become a crawling bandit and it is so much fun, yet so much more work! I'm sorry you had to deal with one of those rude people. I don't even notice the stares much any more, but I did get irritated the other day while in the mall and a lady just about did the exorcist head twist while staring at my son. I too felt worse for my 9 year old step daughter who also saw the rude lay and did not understand why anyone would need to stare at her little brother. Argh, rude people!
