hi Becky:

Staying active seem's to be the number 1 thing doctors tell us.. But the pain makes it almost impossible.. at least for me it does..

the one type of exercise I have found the helps me stay somewhat mobile. is walking on the treadmill.. but then I can only do that for a very short time..

There is other's here thathave some of the same problems you do so I am hoping they can answer your second question better than I can..

Welcome to the group.. By the way I am Marie

Take Care

Hi Becky, Welcome to our group :) Sorry about your diagnosis, it is always tough to get the news. But we are here to help you and encourage you and to uplift you in the down times,, and to be here and to hear you when you need to talk to vent to be angry at this disease. I don't know the answers to your questions... just that to keep moving is the best. It is tough for me to even get up off the couch, chair, bed or where ever as well. Walking across the floor sometimes is a task I would rather not do. However, I do manage to walk the 3 miles to college on the days I have classes.. or to the grocery store when my children need food. Or to the gas company when i need to pay their bill. It is a matter of the want to I suppose not sure how to describe it. Am sorry about all the surgeries and injuries that you are suffering from as well.. that is up to your doctor to let you know exactly what movements that you can do without further injuring yourself hun.. Hugs you and again welcome to a wonderful group! :) We are here for each other and therefore here for you :) Huggles you lots ;) Sophia -- new with questions and a little about me my name is becky , a 48 yr.old mother of 4 with 5 grandchildren.married for 30 yrs. Hi Becky,

I have DDD also and sometimes it's hard for me to distinguish what is Fibro pain and what is disc pain. I've had many spinal surgeries and now I'm diagnosed with Failed Spinal Surgery Syndrome. I'm better than I used to be tho.

I know it's hard, and I use a cane sometimes also when I'm in a flare, as I also have a tendency to fall. I drag my left leg when I'm flaring. I think when it's the Fibro pain it's more of an ache than the spinal pain which for me feels like a spike. Each person is different tho.

I hope your able to ease some of your pain today and I look forward to getting to know you. I also have 5 grandkids!

Hi Becky,

Welcome to the group! I don't know the answers to your questions, but

there are other folks here who are experiencing the same problems. I do

have fibro, and I've been doing yoga since I was 15 years old. I used to

be advanced, but now I can barely do the starting positions and a couple

of intermediate. I think it's helped me keep mobile, but that mobility is

a factor that caused Social Security to turn down my application. I have

a lawyer now, for my appeal, and if they send me to another doctor I'm

going to go all hunched over like I was before I started taking

Neurontin. Neurontin really helps me a lot, it really decreases the pain

for me, but I'm also on MS-Contin (morphine, continuous release) twice a

day.

I am also BiPolar, mixed states, with Major Depression, so I'm also on

some antidepressants (Lexapro and Wellbutrin) and an anti-psychotic

Seroquel, which my neurologist said also helps with the fibro fatigue.

The Seroquel helps me sleep at night. I also take Clonapin, a relative of

valium, for stress.

There are good doctors out there, and depending on where you live,

someone here in the group might have a doc they like that you can

see.

HUGS,
