Have you looked into Chiari? It's a birth defect that can cause Fibro... the official name is Arnold Chairi Malformation. It can be corrected. I am on Topomax and I don't see flashes of light or lose my balance anymore. The decompression can be performed many different ways, my actual brain wasn't touched for my surgery. My surgeon just shaved away bits of my skull to allow more room back there so my spinal fluid could flow and so my brain had room and wasn't all smooshed up. Not many doctors are versed in Chairi it's pretty rare to have it dx'ed but I don't think it's all that rare personally.

So something odd has been happening the past couple weeks. Forprobably the past couple of months I've been seeing flashes of lightout of the corners of my eyes. My rhumy and my psychologist both saidit was probably the on-comming of a migraine, so I've beenhalf-waiting for a migraine to show up, but there hasn't been anyother signs of a migraine. (well, I got one the other night, but itonly lasted a couple hours and then it was just GONE.. no side effectslike I usually get after migraines). And the flashes of light arestill showing up. And it scares me because when I went on Friday myfriend would come up behind me and there was one time she went to pullmy hair back behind my ear - and I knew she was behind me - but itscared the hell out of me when I felt her touch me. I didn't know ifit was her or just another flash of light...And lately, I've been losing my balance at random times. I'll just bestanding and talking to someone and sort of fall to one side. This hasonly started happening since I've started taking the Topamax. But... Ifeel better on the Topamax...And it never happens if I'm on horseback, or if I'm sitting down, ordriving (which is good!) But it could progress to that... and that'swhat I'm scared of...So I definately need to back and see my rhumy since he was the one whoprescribed that. I go to see my psychitrist on the 9th.VOTE TODAY! KERRY ALL THE WAY =)HAHA, how cheesy am I?Loves and Hugs,-

hi lindsay.... a few things i can think of. first there are things called occular migraines that are only the *eye symptoms* pretty much without the headache...and i do get migraines that last a very short time...a few hours that start with the aura. and sometimes just the aura...it is possible. the other thing is that there are some eye side effects from topamax...i would ask about that with your doc.... lee

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general.2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better.Have a nice day everyone.

I've never gotten the occular symptoms before when I get my migraines.

At least not the light flashes, only the light sensitivity. And it's

been going on for weeks, at least 3 or 4 now...

The migraine I got the other night was my first " short-term " migraine.

I've always gotten migraines that last either all day or all night,

and then knock me out for the whole next day. But I was very very

grateful that it only lasted a couple hours and didn't kill me for the

next day, I really didnt want to have to have called into work sick

because I had a migraine!
