ROTF!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to see stuff like that all the time, and had a

heck of a time trying to explain why her answers

were not the right answers. I ended up telling her

that everyone sees things differently.

Way to go, !

This left me with my mouth hanging open because it just SCREAMS autism -- so

bizarre!

brought me a page from an activity book that was 'find the differences'.

He looked at the title, looked at the two pictures, and found 3 differences just

like it said...BUT THEY WEREN'T THE ONES HE WAS MEANT TO FIND!

He was supposed to find: a different tail, a stripe missing on one tiger, and

one was smiling while the other was frowning.

What he found: one whisker slightly shorter, a crook in a vine barely (but

still) different, and a rock in a slightly different place.

Just amazing. He totally missed the big stuff, and found these little things

nobody else would notice. Amazing!

I'm no Salli, but I'd say that boy is autistic!

Sigh.

Yeah, I guess having a propensity to find very minute differences

that weren't intentional, and missing the big, obvious ones, is a

pretty autistic trait, huh?

Ok, ok...

Jacquie:

Very funny actually. But when I was little I used to find the big

differences you were supposed to find and the little differences you were

not supposed to find and it did bother me very slightly.

But 's way is much stranger.

That is the typical autie way, huh?

Good for you, .

I like this kind of thing. I like it when Madison finds such interest in a

little piece of plastic. It's like she sees the things we miss. Granted,

they miss a lot of what we see, but who is to say that what WE see is what

matters, or that what WE notice is the right stuff to notice? noticed

3 differences, just as he should have. Curious.... would he agree if you

pointed out the big differences that were intended to be the right answer?

Last night, Shaun and Madison were both rustling a piece of plastic next to

their ear. Plastic pieces from the plastic wrap to wrapping paper. Rustle,

rustle....

I walked in on them, and just watched for a moment and asked, " WHAT are you

doing? "

Of course, Madison just looked at me, but made no reply.

" I'm listening, " says Shaun.

" To? "

" To the sound of plastic. "

" I can see that, " I tell him. " WHY? "

" This is kinda cool, " he tells me. " Here, you try it... it sounds different

when it's this close, " and offers me the tiny piece of plastic. I just

looked at him.

Well............. at least HE is verbal.
