Do get her back on SNT, and as for Risperidal, I hope you can work something out at the appt. <Sigh> I don't know why it always has to be one thing or another. Poor you, poor Ebony. Poor all of us. You're in my thoughts, and I will definitely hope for major constipation at your place... at least for a couple of days. Guest guest
Thanks. I was so sleepy this morning cause was up most of the night with a fever, that I forgot to start her on it this morning. So, I will wait till tomorrow. I do think that it is sensory related though. Maybe after Xmas is over things will settle down? I hope. Guest guest
Thanks. It's helps just to know there are people out there who understand and, though in rough situations themselves, are here to offer support. She already smeared a little today, but we caught her before she got anything but herself. I need to rent the carpet cleaner again. I scrub it by hand, but it still stinks. Thanks for the good thoughts. I just get so frustrated cause we try to give her a ton of sensory options and still she chooses this. She has a trampoline she can use at will. She has never been refused any sensory activity that she requests. I even have home made silly putty in the fridge for her to use. I might try the peanut butter idea that someone posted. Just give her a bowl of pb and let her go nuts, but in a controlled environment. Thanks, again. Sorry, I am so unfamiliar with this, and for sure, *I* have never needed to do this. So I need a little more info. Is it the act of spreading, or is it the feces that is important? I don't get it. But there is always the chance that very noxious smells could be needed too. I think it's time for heavily scented, playdough for sensory playtime. try hiding toys in the playdough and having her find them. Guest guest
ROTFLMAO!!! Literally...it's falling off as I type! (actually, on the subject of falling off asses, my wieght has already gone down 20 lbs!!! since my stroke.) Okay. I wasn't talking about poop flavored incense or anything that disgusting. I meant and overpowering smell for the playdough. You could try a few drops of peppermint flavoring first and see how that goes. If you need something bitter you best try something less pleasant to the taste but again liquid flavoring would work. Add it to the playdough before kneading it (with gloves on at first so you don't absorb the smell). kandie Kandie and (9 years) * 's website: <A HREF= " http://kidsactivities.homestead.com/spage.html " >spage</A> *
Guest guest
I know it is the texture thing and I am sure the spreading and playing in it. But it has also been suggested that the smell is also satisfying a sensory need....it sure dissatisfies my senses!! But it has also been suggested that the smell is also satisfying a > sensory need....it sure dissatisfies my senses!>> Tamara, The other thing I have been told about it is that it seems " safe " to them because it comes from them (not trying to get too graphic, sorry)...and I wonder if they go back to the same place because of the smell...I have been reading Bonnie Hanschu's stuff lately and she is the first therapist I have seen who doesn't downplay the importance of the sense of smell. She talks about how smell is the only sense that goes straight to the limbic system (emotions)...very powerful stuff. We interpret it as a negative, but as we all know, our kids don't interpret things the same way we do... Good luck...cleaning up poop is one of my least favorite things...and I do way too much of it. I figured out the other day that with the exception of a few months when I was pregnant with , I have been changing diapers for almost 15 years!
