Guest guest
Hi Ian: Whether or not a child requires a 2nd or even a 3rd band normally depends on the child's growth. Cranial Technologies, who manfactures the DOCband, have done numerous studies to my knowledge, which showed that after 4.5 mos time in one band, that band loses much of it's effectiveness as the pressure points have become exhausted. At that time, if more correction is needed, Cranial Tech will require a 2nd band to be made. Often, especially in younger infants who are rapidly growing, the child outgrows their band and again, if more correction is needed, a 2nd band will be suggested. Yes, additional bands do cost extra and you have to pay for the 2nd as much s the 1st band. Also, there is soooo much more to re-shaping a child's head than simply making a mold & plopping a helmet on the child's head. As for the " many " bad fitting helmets you are referencing, I haven't heard of many recently. Yes, many parents post to the group of concerns with red spots, skin concerns, and/or helmets shifting, but those are quite typical concerns while banded, that does not mean the helmets are all bad fitting by any means. Oh and I don't think putting a bucket on your baby's head would do much good Hope this helps. Have you added your son's picture to our " photos " section as of yet? I'd love to see him. Guest guest
Ian - My child needed two helmets because he grew quickly and outgrew his fist one and needed more correction and there was no way he could have gotten it from that one helmet. Some childrens heads are more severe then others and depending on the age multiple bands could be needed.
