Guest guest
Dan, we always assume that a newbie doesn't know what knob to twist to tune to control. So we give raw basic advice, don't stuff your face with glucose. That is pretty basic. aftter that we assume the basic intelligence to learn from their own experience and testing. They need not be astonished that a serving of rice, a roll and a small roll cause 200 sugars, we can predict that. Like the movie Soylent Green, sugars and starches are made fom glucose! Guest guest
Dan, I appreciate your remarks, as well as 's. This is not a low carb list, but it does seem like the majority of frequent posters follow a low or lower carb way of eating. Personally, I would love to hear more from those who use other food plans - ADA, etc., but they don't seem to want to share much. I think this is the bottom line of the problem. As to advice to the newbies who seem to have no clue (not the ones who have gained control), like others, I feel that learning to limit the foods that spike them is not a bad thing. I'm not talking low carb, really, just common sense in food choices. A lot of people are very used to eating tons of carbs per day. I believe that cutting down on those carbs, as well as the types of those carbs (to lower glycemic) will set them on the road to better control. For instance, some on our list who eat more carbs than others have said, for instance, that they can no longer eat pizza every day, nor can they eat a lot of it at one time. This is just an example, but I think you get my meaning. I'm glad you spoke up, and please don't hesitate to do so in the future. I love hearing about everyone's method of control, as long as it's constructive, and I always learn something. I have noticed that some of those who do chose to eat less carbs seem to be tempering their phrasing, for which I, for one, am truly grateful. Please keep sharing, Dan. Thanks, Barb > Thank you, , for expressing a point of view which is close to > mine, and which I feel is more than the norm than the aggressive > (towards the diabetes) approach of many of the frequent contributors. Guest guest
, thanks for sharing that. Actually you and I eat very similarly. Whenever I speak about low carb, I try to say " lowering one's carbs " to get started, but I've never been a strictly low carb advocate (30 per day or so). I eat around 100 carbs per day, sometimes more, and try to eat a healthily as possible. I consider myself " moderate carbs " , and I'm happy with my control, my test results, and my excellent health. I think that's all any of us can ask for. Barb > I do eat around 90 - 110 carbs per day, > trying to focus on low glycemic carbs (mostly low glycemic fruits and > legumes with occasional oatmeal). Within the low glycemic realm I > try to focus on high fiber. This list, however, does NOT regard me > as low carb.
