There is no need to yell at me.

I was using the same " might " that you were.

Although some of the comments here are exasperating,

literally,......I apologize if you were insulted by capitals....and

if you think I was yelling and took it that way.......really, I use

capitals as 'emphasis'...but again I wasn't yelling. I hope you

weren't being condescending to me. That's as bad as yelling.

Then you should stop, because:

> ...but again I wasn't yelling.

This isn't the way your use of capitals will be perceived. When you

type all in capitals in an Internet forum, you are considered to be

yelling at the person. If you don't understand why, MAYBE YOU SHOULD

DO SOME RESEARCH. (Or maybe that example will be enough.)

It's good to learn that if you use capitals like that on an e-mail

list everyone will think you are deliberately yelling. There are

other ways to emphasis. like putting * before (and maybe after too) a

word, or an underscore each side of the relevant words.

No, I wasn't being condescending.

When I want to emphasize something I (and some

others) do *this*. That way it can't be

misinterpreted as yelling. I know there are other

ways (besides doing this or this that won't show

up if you're reading this as plain text) but I forget just now what they are.

I tend to stop reading when people start (what I

perceive to be) yelling. So.... to reply to what you actually said....

You said " those shots MIGHT make the symptoms

worse, or cause symptoms that might not otherwise

have appeared if the shot had not been administered "

I replied " but those same shots that " MIGHT make

the symptoms worse " might also save her life.

My statement was as valid as yours. (wasn't it?)

You replied: " I'm talking about real life, not woulda coulda shoulda. "

to which I said " I was using the same " might " that you were. "

You *were* talking woulda, coulda. You have no way of *knowing*. (Do you?)

Then you say " You just haven't made the effort to SEE the picture "

How do you know what kind of effort I've put into

this? Is *this* condescension?

I guess it was what you said as much as the all

caps that halted me in my tracks. Next sentence

you assume to know what I think....

Angel,

Parrish is correct: I teach online, and when I was trained, it was part of the

required information on " netiquette " tat we had to learn " . There is a time for

yelliing: All caps will work great for that. We were told thatitalics would

work well for emphasis.

, who makes errors, too : c )

Then you should stop, because:

> ...but again I wasn't yelling.

This isn't the way your use of capitals will be perceived. When you

type all in capitals in an Internet forum, you are considered to be

yelling at the person. If you don't understand why, MAYBE YOU SHOULD

DO SOME RESEARCH. (Or maybe that example will be enough.)

Very few people in the developed world die of the classic infectious diseases

now prevented by vaccines. (DPT, smallpox, etc.)

Many of the more recent vaccines, such as MMR, Chickenpox, and flu, address

diseases which are just an inconvenience to most of us, and hazardous mainly if

a pregnant woman or a person in a weakened state (elderly, immune compromised,

etc) gets them. The general public is protected as long as the majority of

people are vaccinated, and as long as ill people take reasonable precautions to

avoid exposing themselves to pregnant women and others in weakened states. It's

a trade off; none of us gets out of this life alive anyhow.

As for me, I get a flu shot every year, a tetanus shot every 10 years, and if I

ever travel I intend to get the recommended shots. But this is my personal

choice. I know other people avoid vaccines; this is their personal choice. The

majority of people do tend to get vaccinated, and, as long as this trend holds

up, the public is reasonably safe. Sooner or later something gets each of us,

in the end; in the meantime, we do the best we can.

On the other hand, I waited as long as possible before getting my daughter her

shots, and spread them out as much as possible. I figured that getting them in

rapid succession, several at a time, was too much strain on a baby's system, the

diseases in question are very rare anyhow, and there was no harm in spreading

them out over time. She's doing fine; however, she was blessed with good health

and a strong constitution anyway.

For a mother with a daughter with a serious condition like Retts, who is anyone

else to question her decision that getting her daughter shots may aggrivate her

condition in ways that cannot be forseen? " Based on what evidence? " Who is

anyone else to demand this evidence? Maybe only a gut feeling? Who is anyone

else to discount that?

" Gut feelings " are the result of subconscious processing of -huge- amounts of

information, and they are correct more often than not. Many people have the

experience of making a decision against their gut feeling that they later

regretted, and say something like, " I had a feeling that I shouldn't have done

that, I wish I had gone with that feeling! "

Rett syndrome is a very serious and painful condition, and the mother of a Rett

syndrome daughter is doing the best she can. We all do the best we can with

whatever we got.

There's a lot of anecedotal evidence associating vaccines with autism,

particularly its co-morbidities. Many of these co-morbidities are very painful,

and it seems reasonable to try to avoid them if possible, particularly with a

child who is already ill because of a genetic problem. Anecedotal evidence is

juat that; it's not scientific, and could be coincidental.

Still, it's a human tendency to look at patterns and try to make sense of them.

Some people try to make sense of this association by suggesting that AC's may be

more sensitive to vaccines in an analogous way that we are more sensitive to

sounds, lights, and smells.

If the mother of a child who is already struggling with a very serious illness

chooses to take this association into account in making decisions about her

daughter's health, what is that to anyone else? - Joni

My apologies, its just that the repeated requests for evidence of vaccination /

harm link and the repeated requests for justificatoin of one's personal

decisions regarding the care of one's children struck me as a bit demanding.

This list is getting ugly. I've seen other lists get ugly and I guess this list

is no different. I got better things to do than watch this. I'm outta here for

When I said it was time for a breather, I was thinking most particularly of

you, and this post is a pretty clear demonstration of why I called a " time

out " .

Please take a few moments (or longer) to gather yourself and settle down,

make yourself a cup of tea or whatever it is you do when you're overworked

and need to settle down, then come back and maybe we'll be able to discuss

things civilly again.

Angel - sarcasm and confrontation when someone offers a peaceful and apologetic

response does not build a positive pathway to effective communication or in any

way create an open mind in others toward any sort of point you wish to make. Try

calming down a smidge if you truly want people open and sympathetic to your

point of view.
