My current Rx is based upon 4 strips/day. The original rx was for 1 box of

50. My insurance co has a policy that each co-pay can't be for more than 34

days and they will not cover any rx filled more than 2-3 days before the

calculated supply runs out. Of course, they round out numbers in THEIR

favor.

They will only approve 1 box of 100 strips per $10 copay, even though a 34

day supply calculates out to 136. They will allow me to reorder and pay

another co-pay every 25 days. BTW, I don't test 4 times every day. Since my

bs levels stay pretty stable, I check only fasting and a spot 2 hr pp

reading

after my largest meal. Other days, I try something new and test every 15 -

30 minutes for 2-3 hours to see how a food or food combination affects me.

My

strip usage averages out to the 4/day.

Up until this last year, I had meager rx coverage..only $500 total drug cap

(including DM supplies) with higher co-pays. I always reached that amount

by

March. Now, my insurance rates are MUCH higher, but the drug cap (which

includes DM supplies) is now $2000.

The ins co also shrunk the drug formulary...I used to take a 5 mg.

protective

dose of an ACE Inhibitor, prinivil, but that has now been replaced with

Lotensin.

Hi All,

Sorry I have been lurking for awhile. I have been fighting Diabetic

complications for the last year more so than ever. I have had 5 strokes.

Now they found a mass/cyst on my left kidney while doing an MRI of my lower

back... Plus other medical problems.

But to the answer to this question about test strips. I have my Doctor's

office call a Medical supply house that my insurance accepts, with NO

CO-Payments to me, Calls in for 400 test strips for 3 months and 400

lancets, 400 B-D syringes and the testing controls.

I do test 4-5 times a day, but when I was sick I had tested a min. of 6

times a day.

You have to do some research and look for diabetic warehouses I call them

and talk to them and they will tell you if your insurance is accepted and

how to get what you need.

My script was for 200....had no trouble after the first year. Before that

they would not cover it because my AC1 were so good...had to show them the

first one at 11...before they would cover them!!!
