Guest guest
Hello. My child and I just got back from neurosurgeon. Latest problems: intracranial pressure headaches, eye pain and her left hand keeps " dropping " . NSG wants her to be admitted Friday to complete a bolt test? She is going to have a pressure device inserted into her head and it will provide a reading of the pressure inside her head? She also will have an MRI and a consult with a neuroopthalmologist. Has anyone ever heard of this bolt test? I'm imagining her hooked up to a machine with a huge bolt in her head. She had a decompression in Aug 99 but pressure is back!!! I'm afraid and have to be strong for her, she is 4 and1/2 and understands that she is going to the hospital. Any feedback would be appreciated. Elvira - Mother of w/ ACM 1, and multihandicapped. This is a procedure that has been discussed for and if her recent shunt revision doesn't help her headaches, that is what we will be doing next. The monitor is inserted into the brain and monitoring is done for a period of time. Could be 24 hours to a couple of days to several days and will determine what kind of pressure the person is experiencing. In some cases of those with shunts that can be regulated, adjusting of the shunts are done depending on the intercranial pressure. In 's case, her shunt is not adjustable, but the procedure will tell us how high her pressure is getting over a matter of days and then we decide what we do from there.
