Guest guest
Hello All!! I wanted to tell you all about our exciting weekend! and I were in land this weekend as we attended the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Big Five Event!! We attend this function with the Appell family, , and Jillian Foley, and Bonnie on, the grandmother of Broich. The hall was beautiful!! Walking in made us feel so special. The room was decked out in black, white and gold balloons. There was play money everywhere!! The flowers on the tables were beautiful!! Then I stopped to think about why every one was there. They were there to help raise money for all of us! To benefit our wonderful kids!! Money wasn't the only reason. They were there to raise awareness of CHARGE Syndrome!! They really want to know about our children!! Very few of those people knew us and yet, they opened their hearts to us and gave money willingly to support the foundation. As the night wore on, we enjoyed great food, speakers and dancing but greater still were the people. and Jillian are both using walkers and all around people stopped to look, take pictures and love them. Jillian was the social butterfly of the group! What a sweetheart she is!! She also surprised her mom by taking a walk right out of her walker!! She's going to be keeping her mom busy!! Abby was there dressed beautifully enjoying the comfort of her mom and dad but also her Aunt and Uncle!! When she saw me, she was hoping I was going to be her teacher!! Abby was showing how to do some matching!! She is going to keep Bruce and on their toes!! was 's(Abby's big sister) shadow and she was a tremendous help to me!! also outlasted all of us!! What a trooper!! Many of the guests took time out to talk with me and with and really made us feel welcome and special. I cannot begin to tell you about the speakers. Their whole reason for being there was CHARGE!! They presented the CHARGE foundation with a check for $10,000.00!!! Then they thanked us for allowing them to help in this way!!! They are the ones we need to be thanking yet, when I tried to thank them, they grew humble. It is as if they were given special blessings from being able to support us therefore they felt we were the ones to be thanked!! I rambled some there but I wanted you all to get the feel for how truly wonderful it felt to be amongst these people!! Tommy and Robin Adkins, as well as the rest of the Greater Waldorf Jaycees really are a special group of people!! They went above and beyond to make us feel blessed. I just took a look at the booklet again and was reminded of all the sponsors that were involved!! You should see the list of all those who have given time, money, and other donations. Once again, I am over whelmed!! This is a bit long winded but I was excited when I got home. It takes me a while to collect me thoughts so they are readable!! Thanks for letting me tell you about this!! Guest guest
I just want to add to Colleen's comments of the Big Five Event in land this weekend. I don't think that words could possibly make all of you understand what the Jaycees did ALL for OUR kids. When I went, I guess I didn't expect the attention we got. I guess I expected a little speech, present the check, and dance the night away. Well, boy was I wrong. There were 400 people there to support ALL or our kids. Our little CHARGE represenatives were Abby, , and Jillian and they really gave them a good picture of what CHARGE kids are all about. Everyone thought that Jillian and were so cute running around with their matching walkers. had a basket on the back of hers with a baby doll in it and Jillian kept trying to steal her baby doll. ( So now, I guess I'll be heading to Toys R Us for a basket to hook onto Jillians' walker) Anyway, as Colleen said, they were thanking us for allowing them to be able to be involved in supporting our children and I was just taken aback when they kept thanking me!! I have never been thanked like that before when they were the ones we should be thanking. It puzzled me how incredible they were and again as Collen said, how humble they were. It kept tears welling up in my eyes. Jillian did a great job of thanking the table of the biggest sponsers of the event. We al watched her from across the room and I was laughing and practically crying at the same time for what she was doing. She was socializing, running from table to table with her walker and she happened t stop at the VIP table and crawled into a womans lap and hugged her neck and put her head on her shoulder for a minute or so, gave her a kiss, then held her arms out to the next man at the table. Now this man, she hugged and lay on his chest for about 5-6 minutes, then gave him a kiss and held her arms out to the next lady. This went on until she hugged and kissed everyone at the table. (She really picked the right table). That was as if she was thanking them for all of you. She melted their hearts and let them know how great our kids are. I wish you all could have been there. You would have been so proud to have Abby, , and Jillian represent all of our kids. Abby was beautiful in her pretty new dress. impressed us all with her intelligence writing her name and identifying pictures and Jillian was the PR person. I could go on, but Jillian is in my lap wanting a bottle. She just woke up.
