Hi and Welcome to the group;

I am not in your age group. I am 36 also from Illinois Southern Part..

But I can totaly relate like I am sure most here can...

Fibro is not discriminating on age,sex,race or religion if effect's young and old..

What med's are you on? When you was in school in CA. did you check with the school to see if they could help you with you vigoris exercise program?

exercise is important to keep us mobile..(not sure how you can do 3 to 4 hours) that made me sore and tired just reading that..

I do not know why but for some reason depression and anxiety seem to go along with Fibro. like we don't have enough to deal with..

If you need some one to talk to Please feel free to contact me.. we all needa friend. regardless of age..

You have come to the right place. We all deal with fibro on a daily

basis and each has their own way of dealing with and managing the

pain. I understand the school thing. I am 43 yrs old, have a 13 yr

old, go to school full time, work part time and take care of home and

family. I guess that qualifies me as being in the somewhat busy

catagory,lol!!

First of all, welcome to the group. This is the place to find out the information that you need. I am a bit older than you so not sure if you want to talk to me and I have not been diagnosed for that long so maybe someone who has is a better choice. I just wanted to say hello and let you know that you are no longer alone, we are all here for you .... :) I am 41 by the way :) Huggles you lots ;) Sophia -- NEW to group - I'm 19 and need a friend I got fibro my senior year of high school (last year), and took the rest of the year off to try to get it under control. Please never feel alone, we are all here, all of us to be your friend in this disease. We all understand how this disease will change dreams and or postpone them for a short time. But always believe that your dream is never to far off, that you will get to go to college and do what youve always wanted to. Everyone of us here can relate and can help. Anything you ask most of us can answer and we all have a kind shoulder and kind heart to lend to you when your wanting it. Hi. We may not be your age but, to use an old cliche', "we feel your pain". at 43, I don't have the same goals or problems as you do but I hurt. I struggle with raising toddlers and a teen age daughter. I know what's it like not being able to function daily. It's gotta be hard to have to postpone; and I say postpone because one day, when you have somewhat of a handle on this, it will get better; your dreams. Don't give up. We're here if you just wanna complain or if you have questions. Whatever. Just don't ever give up. We gotta keep going. Together.

Hi, and welcome to the group. I'm really sorry to hear what all

you've been through in the past year or so, especially at such a

young age. Although I'm not in your age range (I'm 33), I do

understand how hard it is to try to keep you life balanced with your

illness. My sister in law is 19 too, and she's one of my closest

friends.

I think it's great that you are dedicated to keeping active, and it

benefits you so much, but setting aside 2-4 hours of your day to it

might be a little too much. There are a lot of other ways to help

control your pain that might be a little more conducive to your

being able to have a more " normal " schedule, and will also help

alleviate your depression and anxiety.

You said that you are seeing a psychologist 2 hours a week. Are you

currently on an anti-depressant? This is usually one of the first

medications normally prescribed in treating Fibro. Not only does it

help alleviate any depression that may arise after the dx, but it

can also help with pain and insomnia. If you aren't currently

taking an a/d, I would suggest that you bring it up with your

doctor.

Something else that you may also want to consider is taking

magnesium and malic acid supplements. Studies have shown that a lot

of people with Fibro are deficient in magnesium, the symptoms of

which can be muscle pain and weakness, muscle spasms, fatigue,

irritability, nerve impulse disturbances, and so on. The max

recommended dosage of magnesium is 500mg, and for malic acid, well,

I'm not sure how high you can go, I wouldn't go less than 1200mg. I

started taking both of these in late spring, and within a week, I

noticed a definite and dramatic improvement in my energy level, my

pain level decreased, and I didn't have even half as many spasms.

A diet that is high in protein, and low in carbs, especially simple

carbs (sugars, processed flours) would benefit you as well.

Proteins are a better, and longer lasting, source of fuel for the

muscles. Complex carbs are okay too, such as whole grains, and most

veggies. Fruits are allowable in moderation, as their sugar is

natural, but they shouldn't be a mainstay of the diet. Lean

proteins should make up the majority of your diet. Avoiding

caffeine, artificial fillers, preservatives, MSG, and artificial

sweeteners should be avoided too, because they can trigger flares.

I really hope that you are able to get into a pain management

program soon. That will be such a crucial step for you in learning

how to manage pain in different ways. I also hope that some of the

things I've suggested will work for you so that you are able to back

off the exercise a little bit, and can focus on just living your

life. Please feel free to write me any time, if you need someone to

talk to, vent on, ask questions, whatever you need. I'd be more

than happy to help!

I'm off to bed now. It's way past my bedtime, and I have to get up

at 5:30. I just wanted to make sure I made contact with you tonight

Everyone here is strong hun... have to be.. some are in some areas and some are in the other ones. I too go to college and have a family. But I also live with the pain that goes with this awful disease. Everyday is a fight to get up and go, but I do. That is the important thing. And to know that we are still living and that things could be far worse. Some days we think that they cant but we know different. Welcome to the group. I am so sorry for all that you are going through. No matter what our age, we all understand because FMS does not discriminate. It hits all ages. I am not your age, I am 42, but I do know that we do have others out there in the group that are more your age. I hope that you are able to connect up with them soon.
