Or is she still on formula? No she is only on formula. My mom thinks that it was the rice that the doctors put her on when she was a newborn to keep the formula down. She had a bad reflux problem and they wanted to see if putting 3tbsp of rice in her bottle would keep the forumla in her tummy. It worked great, but now she is overweight. Anyway.. Now she is drinking 6oz of formula with 2oz of water and regular jar food. She only has 3 bottles a day - not because I am limiting her, that is just how much she eats. Plus she will have a bit of cereal in the morning and then in the afternoon a veggie and a fruit. That is it. I am hoping that now she is rolling around and trying to crawl it will start to burn off. My 8 yr old was extremely cubby - 20lbs at 6 months old, but for some reason did not look quite as chubby as my Rae. goes back to the doctors in 6 weeks to make sure that she is not gaining too much. If she does then they might do some invasive work (like seeing if she has a thyroid problem - which runs in my family). Goodness I hope not!! This is what my baby eats in one day: 8oz bottle (6 of formula 2 of water) 3tbsp rice w/ some fruit 8 oz bottle (same as above) a jar of veggies and a the other half of the breakfast fruit jar (these are the small jars, not the big jars) 8 oz bottle (same as above) She may, just may if she is lucky get 2 oz of juice cut with 3oz of water and then not the whole bottle - just enough to have something with her veggies. So you see she does not eat alot, just holds on to it well. I hope I am not going to cause a battle with moms and how they take care of their babies. My baby is extremely active and would rather play with her big sister instead of eating, but she needs nutrition. Luckly my 8 yr old has a killer body (I would never tell her this or imply it to her in anyway... but I feel I will need to watch her with the boys when she gets older) and does not need to watch what she eats, however when I am on program she tends to eat healthier then if I am not on program. So WW way of life is rubbing off on her in a way. Jen 215.5/209/194.5 (10% goal) Goal #1 10lbs by 10/31. 6.5lbs gone so far
Guest guest
Hey Jen, My daughter's name is Lindsey Dawn If she only drinks 3 bottles which is not a lot at all for her age! it might be that rice but I have heard that babies too can have thyroid problems. I've been wondering if my youngest gbaby might have it. She eats as much as we do! She has been on table food for a long time, the bottles weren't enough and she never cared for baby food from the jars. I have never seen a child like her before, lol but I know that her Father eats in the same fashion. He now is at 250 and he is a shortie, maybe 5'4. The WIC people told my daughter that this child is in the normal range for height though to us she seems short too. Her name is Vanity. But I am always amazed at how much and what she will eat. She even likes raw onions!!!! The only thing I see she doesn't care for much is spaghetti. She'll eat it if you feed it to her but left alone she won't eat it. And you can feed her and then sit down to eat your own meal and there she is, wanting yours, lol Re: Jen - babies > In a message dated Mon, 30 Sep 2002 2:30:26 AM Eastern Standard Time, ozmee@... writes: > > > That is a lot for a 6mo...did you try low fat > > milk? Guest guest
That is a lot for a 6mo...did you try low fat > milk? Or is she still on formula? Low fat milk is a bad idea for a 6 month old!!!! In an ideal world, a baby this age should still be nursing, or at least relying on formula for most of her calories. It is the rice cereal, baby food, and table food that should be kept to a minimum, if she really needs to cut back on caloric intake. Anyway, I wouldn't even give my 2 year old low fat milk, I keep my kids all drinking whole milk, even for my oldest, (a nine year old boy). None of my kids are remotely overweight, and even if they were, I'd cut back on snacks or sweets or juice before I'd ever change the milk they drink. Not that I want to be rude or anything, to each their own, but I don't want my kids to think that they need to do what I do to lose weight. They need to eat ENOUGH to grow up, and they are very physically active, which in my opinion, is far more important when it comes to keeping kids healthy. I don't want them to get the hang ups about food that I have, for example.
Guest guest
Ozmee, I so agree. Right now is loving Science. I am hoping that she follows with it. However, she has her mother's lack of math skills. We are working on that though. I am going to scan some pictures of my babies. I would love to see yours. My mother and all her sisters were brought up the same way - evaperated milk. Except my youngest aunt who is only 9 yrs old then me - I believe she is the only one that was on formula (my mom is one of 5 and is the eldest). It is so funny how things seemed so lacked way back when, now-a-days if you don't have the hottest baby product on the market you are frowned upon (at least that is how I feel, and sometimes fall into the trap). The word laxed (sp). I meant that you got by with what you had and nothing fancy. Now-a-days everything is so fancy and product oriented. Guest guest
No Just everyone has different ideas on kids I raised my last child on evaporated milk with syrup added, it is what my Mom raised all four of us on and we are just fine! I used to put in too much syrup though and she got chubby but after I adjusted it she was fine. I have seen children under a year old who were so big they looked 3x as old as they were, makes me wonder what in the world they're being fed. But I don't think it harms a baby to be chubby, as they grow they will stretch it all on out, lol. My 7yo gdaughter is the same, I know we are going to have to keep an eye on her and so I am 'brainwashing' her now, that it is much more important to go to college and earn an education as opposed to worrying about whether or not she has a 'man'. With her looks she will never have a problem in that area, and being an educated person such as a doctor, will earn her even more respect. I just hope my teaching will take root. In fact a week or so ago when we took her friend out to eat with us and she asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, the friend said Wonder Woman but our gdaughter said 'I'm going to be a doctor'! I was thrilled to hear her say that but I realize at this tender age, that can change, lol She often says nurse when I say doctor. I don't care what field she decides on but just hope to encourage her to go to college so that she can be self sufficient no matter if there is a man around or not! Guest guest
I have pictures of my Grandbabies, but just got a new one of the oldest today from WM. We got these made in lieu of the ones they do at school, not only do we save money but we get a lot more. They wanted us to pay sight unseen and last year both photos they took were awful!!! I see they do not allow attachments here or I'd include it. I will have to send it to you or stick it up on a web page All of us did okay on the old way so that is why I tried it with my youngest. Plus we were so broke at that time. I bought cloth diapers and used them for a while, did it almost the whole time my second was in diapers and they didn't even have those things when the first one was in diapers, lol I remember paying like 1.59 for the pampers but heck I also remember getting 1.87 an hour too, hehehe for pay. And when milk was .99 cents, cigs were .35 and gum just .05, sigh...We bought a 1973 Mach I Mustang for about $6,000 I think and that was a high payment of $132 per month It was a stupid thing to do! But we were young and stupid, now we are old and stupid, hehehehe
