Guest guest
Lorrie, In the beginning of this WOE, your best friend is a huge dose of patience, couple with a healthy serving of persistence! Those two things deliver a powerful punch to the WOE. Just stick with it and watch what happens. If you are sure you are following the induction rules carefully, you should have nothing to worry about. And, if your ketostix indicate any change in color at all, then you are definitely in ketosis. That's great! Terry
Guest guest
If you have low sugar now, it may be time to cut back on your meds. Have you talked to your doctor about it? weight loss Maxi, I'm male, I weighted 315 max, I just cut back on excesses, was 275 when I joined Kaiser HMO, was 264 when they asked me to sign a no fat pledge, no fried foods, gravies or sauces, No spread at taable, trim all fat from meat before cooking, I gas grilled everything. I was on glyburide 2.5mg, I lost about 2 pounds a week. When i got around 200 I was forced to 1.25mg oral by repeated lows, In a month I was forced to diet only by repeated low sugars. I have regained some weight, but am still controlling with diet. I know others that lost weight on Atkins diet. Guest guest
Bob, I've been on diet for years, I did have some advice on discontinuing meds. On diet I was in delicate balance, I learned what caused my sugar to rise and stopped it. I gave up bread, pasta, pizza anything flour based. Guest guest
In a message dated 01-07-17 22:28:53 EDT, you write: << am controlling my type 2 with diet also and I think I may try low carbing too, but then I worry about ketosis. >> Not to worry about ketosis. Many on this list have been lowcarbing for years with no health problems and improved BGs. Have you read " Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solutions " by K. Bernstein M.D. yet? Tells all about both type 1 and 2 diabetes and how to control safely with lowcarbing. He also has website with excerpts, URL at bottom of this post. Guest guest
Sam, it was so nice to receive a note from you...I have done some thinking and eliminating stuff from my diet and I think I have found the answer...I too need to sign a " no fat pledge " as my weakness seems to be peanut butter and...get this, mayonnaise of all things. We had a lovely veggie meal last night including fresh picked ripe tomatoes and young asparagus. I can't believe I unconsciously put may on it...didn't even think!!! I'm going to make my own pledge and stick with it. I have finally gotten the victory over sugar, don't really miss it much anymore. Thanks for your good advice...I am controlling my type 2 with diet also and I think I may try low carbing too, but then I worry about ketosis. I have been diagnosed about 1 year now, have not yet seen a diabetic diet ,,this is all trial and error for me. It burns fat faster, but it won't hurt you at all. Is your bs under control? i.e., is it around 100? Barb
Guest guest
Maxilou, I think being just a bit hungry helps weight loss. When you think you are hungry, find out your sugar level. I like to eat about 90, I get hungry about 83, shocky at 62 or so. I use a control solution to check my meter in a special way, and had 2 profile meters that agreed within a point with blood or test solution. Kaiser supported the Profile meter first, I thought the would use the computer download on it, but no. It uses a cheap cable to the serial port to download. I have the lifescan InTouch software, free at their site, and diabass 4.0 on CD. I met their Swiss rep here once. I worrry less about testing now, and and a few morning fasting readings tell me if I am on course. I like to be below 95 fasting and 85 in the summer, heat kills my appetite some. Guest guest
Right, but even Atkins tell us zero carbs is dangerous. So be sure and eat some. Guest guest
Barb, I am just now reading my email after about 3 days ofnot workiing with it. My bs's are about 113 fasting, go up to 160's if I don't watch what I eat. I don't seem to suffer much yet except I notice my glasses are needing to be re-done or rather, my eyes need checking. I get extremely irritable if my bs is around 90 (a real change for me, as I am really laid back, not much upsets me.) Have been quite stressed out since Feb. this year., but now things are much better. Are my readings in the semi-normal range for diet control alone? f nbowFarm@...> To: <diabetes_int > Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2001 9:25 PM Subject: Re: weight loss > >.I am controlling my type 2 with diet also and I think I may try low > > carbing too, but then I worry about ketosis. Guest guest
Hi, Maxilou. A lot of people have experienced trouble with their vision changing as their bs comes down, so this is a good sign. It seems their eye doctors tell them not to change prescriptions until their bs has been under control for a bit. A lot of them report that their eyes go back to the vision they had before. The reason you feel lousy at 90 is because your body is so used to being so much higher. This will change, and you won't feel lousy until around 65 or less, which is true hypoglycemia and means you should take a glucose tablet. It looks like you are well on your way to good control. 160 for a spike is high, as you are aware. Under 140 would be better, under 126, IMHO, would be terrific. It sounds like you're doing a good job, and less stress should help tremendously. As always, eat and test and keep good notes. This will stand you in good stead down the road.
