Guest guest
After slowing withdrawing from Prozac over several months (I was on it for 10 years) I finally went off last October. I wasn't doing badly for several months, but by March-April I became depressed, didn't want to go out, had a lot of brain fog etc. Is this most likely a delayed withdrawal or depression sinking in? Thanks.
Guest guest
That is what happeend to me too and I was wondering if it was common. When I first quit zoloft I was fine (relatively) for the first few months and then I slipped really low and had brain fog. It seems weird that it was so delayed since those drugs are supposed to leave your system relatively quickly, but maybe your synapses keep operating as if they still have the drug for awhile? I don't know.... --- Rick wrote: > After slowing withdrawing from Prozac over several > months (I was on it > for 10 years) I finally went off last October. Guest guest
Hi Rick. When I stopped Prozac (first of many drugs I took), I didn't have symptoms right away either. I had that brain fog, too. It's no fun. But those really sound like withdrawal. Hope that helps, TonyaRick wrote: After slowing withdrawing from Prozac over several months (I was on it for 10 years) I finally went off last October. Guest guest
It's withdrawal, I had this to coming off cipromil, the depression bit only hit about 8 weeks after. It will get better. Make a list of stuff you can do when you feel like this, even if its just to put music on, paint or call someone? With love x
Guest guest
Hi Rick (and Amy too), Welcome to the group. We have a lot of information and experience here to help you with your recovery. You said: <<After slowing withdrawing from Prozac over several months (I was on it for 10 years) I finally went off last October. It's a very common occurrence--and unfortunately, most people think it's a return of their original symptoms and go back on the drugs. Tell us a little more about yourself. Age, medical history, why you went on psych drugs, which drugs, dosages, how long, and describe your withdrawal process(es) in detail. Tell us what you tend to eat in the course of a week, what your life is like, your work, your stress level. The better we know you, the better we understand what your body needs. The good news is that this can and will get better! Nutritional support is key to healing the damage that has been done. It's also the key to healing the symptoms that led you to take the drugs in the first place. Take a look at the stuff that was sent to you when you joined, especially Eating for Recovery and the Basic healing Protocol. You can get started with your diet right away. You may also want to take a look in the FILES at the Members' Stories. Although it's quite incomplete, you will find the stories of people who went through terrible experiences with these drugs and went on to have productive and satisfying live. Guest guest
Hi Kim, thanks for the help. I actually should have written I went off Prozac a year ago last October (2003). In about April 2004, it felt like the depression came back. I'm 36 and was on SSRIs from 1989-2001. I went off Zoloft quickly in 2001 (3 weeks 50mg-0mg) and felt terrible withdrawal effects. So I went back on and gradually reduced using Prozac. Unfortunately I had extreme muscle tension from the Prozac that is slowing getting better but still persists. > Hi Rick (and Amy too), > > Welcome to the group. Guest guest
Oh okay. From your first post I thought you'd been off Prozac for less than a year...now it looks like you've been off for almost 2 years. Correct? It sounds to me like you've got some long-term effects from taking the drugs for so long as well as from the different withdrawals. It is definitely possible to heal from these things...but when it's gone on so long, it takes time to heal. Regards, Kim > Hi Kim, thanks for the help. Guest guest
Thanks, Kim. Do you still think I'm suffering from prolonged withdrawal or is the depression coming back? I've resisted the temptation to go back on the drugs, but I've considered either SJW or 5-HTP. > > Hi Kim, thanks for the help. Guest guest
<<Thanks, Kim. Do you still think I'm suffering from prolonged withdrawal or is the depression coming back? Your body can't heal from the withdrawal without lots of the appropriate nutrients. The symptoms that lead people to take these drugs are also caused largely by nutrient deficiencies, so it's six of one, half dozen of the other. Whether withdrawal or original symptoms, the treatment is the same: nutrients, nutrients, nutrients. Have you had a look at the articles I recommended from the FILES? They're a good place to start. Tell us some more about yourself...what led you to take the drugs in the first place, your history with the drugs, other medical history, what your diet is like, what your life is like, stress level, etc. This will help determine what your needs are.
