There's a small window of opportunity to fix these problems, and i you have a concern then absolutely pursue treatment. I wasted months trying to get my ped and insurance to take my daughter's problem seriously, and I reget allowing the delays. Follow your heart. If you're concerned then go for it as there's no real downside. Your son is still at a great young age for treatment, but with every month that passes that will be less true. If so, are you near Toronto by any chance? If so, then just accross the border in Rochester, NY there is a clinic that does STAR bands (and they even have the Star scanner -so no casting!). Rochester is my home town, although I now live in Boston. I just happened to know about their clinic because I've now spoken to parents in Rochester who have used it. In any case - you may find that there is access to more banding options than you find locally within a " reasonable " driving distance. We started treatment for my daughter in Boston with a local helmet and ended up abandoning that helmet because it fit so very poorly. Next we drove to Connecticut to get a DOC band that did the trick. Initially driving a long distance (2.5 hours each way) for fittings seemed like a very strange idea. However after our initial bad experience, and then getting the treatement we needed by traveling, I'd do it again even if it was much farther and even if I had to fly! Again - its that window of opportunity problem - we have the chance to fix a problem with just a few months of inconvenience that could otherwise last a lifetime. Finally, I'd just like to support what all the others have been saying: if you think Connor's head needs attention - then it does - you are a very (the most) legitimate judge of this. The doctor's and freinds/familymaking comments that they don't see the problem (remember they may be afraid to be honest with you) don't need to live with Connor's head for the rest of his life - but you and Connor do. Guest guest Posted January 7, 2004 Report Share Posted January 7, 2004 I'm in Nova Scotia, there is actually banding done at the hospital he was born at.. its just a PITA to actually get someone to allow it to be done, my other option, that you just mentioned is a 33 hour drive away BUT it is not out of the question for me... I might end up flying it... 200 dollars a trip airfare plus driving time etc. Depends on how it goes with the neuro I suppose... and the waiting list if I get the referral. Boston is actually closer for me... so maybe I will look into that option instead and see if I can swing staying with one of my online friends for a period of time. I dunno..
