Guest guest
, someone emphatically said that my chart was wrong, so I don't know if that's true or not. My glucoprotein is usually around where I think it should be, and if it's low, either I didn't put enough blood in the cup or I tested in bright light. If I'm feeling wealthy <grin> I do another to check. Someone said the In Charge people are really helpful, and might even send more strips. It matches exactly with yours on all the major readings. It doesn't contain enough resolution to tell if the in-between readings are the same. The points that correlate are: bg 60-120-180-240-300 Gp 175-250-325-400-475 HbA1c 4-6-8-10-12 Sorry I don't make nice columns in an e-mail, but I hope you get the idea. I will try and pursue this further. If the Gp reading is right then I am doing much better than I thought. I don't think so!
Guest guest
, I always go with my gut on these things :-). The in between numbers on the chart were figured out by Teri's husband a couple of years ago, as I recall. It always made sense to me, and I always thought that multiplying by 18 was an approximate number, rather than absolute. Not too long ago, someone said the chart was wrong and multiplying by 18 was absolute. I'm pretty math impaired, so I don't have a clue. Personally, I like and use Teri's husband's chart. Maybe Tom the Actuary could figure this out for us. I just uploaded that chart to the shared files for our reference. Guest guest
Barb, I'm sorry, but I have no personal experience or academic knowledge regarding glucoprotein. If I run across anything useful, I'll post it. Tom the Actuary -----Original Message----- From: Rainbow Farm Maybe Tom the Actuary could figure this out for us. Guest guest
Tom, what I meant was perhaps you could look at the chart of conversion of blood glucose, a1c and glucoprotein that I put in the shared files, and see if it makes mathematical sense? TIA Tom, Barb > Barb, I'm sorry, but I have no personal experience or academic knowledge > regarding glucoprotein. If I run across anything useful, I'll post it. Guest guest
> --- Is that where they want it now at5.0. > I thought it was 6? Thought I was doing > great down to 8.5 and only had 2.5 to go!!!!! It depends on your age, I understand, Madge. The younger you are, the greater your chances are of living to see the complications and the lower you need to keep your HbA1c. If you are over 50-60 years old, then 6 should be good enough to avoid you seeing most complications until it won't matter any more (statistically speaking, of course). It is like rolling dice, though - you might live to see your 100th birthday! And don't forget, the lower your HbA1c, the higher is your risk of getting hypos. If you tend to get hypos too often, you might not WANT to have HbA1c under 6! It is all a trade-off between hypos now and complications later. I have had an HbA1c of around 4.5% for months now and my doctor has cut my medication to suit. The last time he cut it from 500mg Glucophage a day down to 250mg a day, saying I should do that now " before it is too late " ! I presume he meant, before the big hypo hits me while I am driving.
