Guest guest
I haven't tried it yet by my gyn just today suggested I go off the topical Estrace (which wasn't working well enough, he thought) and on to the VagiFem. I'll let you know how it is if I try it (not sure yet). If anyone else has an opinion on it, please post and help me make up my mind! best,
Guest guest
Does anyone know if it has to be balanced with Progesterone? I know Estring made me bleed and I had to get off NHRT because of bleeding. Lona : Hi Ladies: : : Have any of you tried an estrogen product called VagiFem? It's an estrogen : pill that you actually place right inside the vagina. I saw a new GYN : yesterday who said to give it a try, but that it is fairly new on the : market. : : Any info. would be helpful. : : Thanks. : : Dena :
Guest guest
Hi - My gynocologist put me on this, but then 12 days later told me to just quit taking it. She started me on it, because she had no answer to my vulvar pain. At the next appt I had with her 12 days later, she said I had plenty of estrogen and I didn't need it. Good God!!! Anyway, I have been taking progesterone for a couple years - I think it is about 10 mg for ten days, starting on the 16th day of my cycle. I started this for extremely heavy bleeding. It has worked miracles. But, this last period, after taking the Vagifem, I had the worst period in 2 yrs. Heavy, clots, etc. I'm sure it was the estrogen. I don't think this would happen to someone already low on estrogen, but it might I suppose. It certainly was easy to use though! --- Dominic and Dena wrote: > Hi Ladies: > > Have any of you tried an estrogen product called > VagiFem? Guest guest
I'm not low on estrogen systemically, at least not the last time they checked. But the theory is that for some reason the compromised vulvar tissue is not taking enough estrogen into it. The VagiFem is a little more systemically absorbed than the topical cream, but not as much as the patch or a pill -- sort of an inbetween step. My doc said my skin was very thin and vascularized (lots of blood vessels) today; that's why he wanted me to try this. It would target the entire vaginal area instead of just the vestibule. I think he also prefers it because it releases the hormone continuously, instead of little spurts upon topical application. I'm seeing another doc tomorrow and I'm going to ask her opinion too before I go ahead and do this. By the way, I was on the patch for a while last year and yes, one of the side effects of extra estrogen is that you get heavier periods... and also a lighter color red, I found. What fun! best,
Guest guest
Two questions - are you low on estrogen? And is this supposed to help the vv? Because my gyn first said to use it, then 12 days later when I went back for another appt., she told me I didn't need to use it. I think she was just grasping at straws, but upon another examination, she decided I had enough estrogen in my system. And that my estrogen level wasn't what was causing the vulvar pain. I also take progesterone for 10 days every month to control heavy bleeding. I have been doing this for 2 yrs and it has helped, but my last period was horrendous and I guess I'm attributing that to the estrogen I was on for a few days. I will see how my next period is and if more back to " normal " , I will definitely attribute it to the estrogen. I just don't think it is necessary for us to take estrogen if we have enough. I thought the cream was different than taking estrogen orally or the patch or this new Vagifem. I'm still learning! --- Katprof2@... wrote: > I haven't tried it yet by my gyn just today > suggested I go off the topical > Estrace (which wasn't working well enough, he > thought) and on to the VagiFem. > I'll let you know how it is if I try it (not sure > yet). Guest guest
..YES!! I know when I wore estring I felt soooooo much better because I was getting more Estrogen to the vulva. It gave me infectons and made me bleed. I wish I knew how much estrogen it puts in the vagina compared to estring or even estrace. I don't do estrace in the vagina but on the outside. I am not doing progesterone right now and wonder if I should be.. Lona But the theory is that for some reason the compromised vulvar : tissue is not taking enough estrogen into it. Guest guest
Dee, Vagifem as well as Estring is only meant for ( local ) delivery. Not systemic. I have a friend who is on tri-est as well as estring. I called the Vagifem company and the dose of Vagifem and Estring are the same. It really helps the vulvalar area. Lona Hi Paivi Welcome to the list, nice to have you aboard. Yes, Vagifem is the female insert pill, and it is the regular Estradiol 17b... but it's a very low dose of Estradiol (25.8 mcg whereas I use a full 2mg (orally) and not micrograms) I think 'I'd' need eight of them *chuckle*... it might be great for those just trying to see if would work for them and may be fine with a lower dose and for those who are uncomfortable with the thought of adding hormones. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I think I'll go for Vagifem. I've had some problems with getting wet, so Vagifem might be a better option than Estrace, affecting the whole vaginal area. love, Päivi
