Lona -

I just recently had a cyscoscopy done myself. I asked

my urologist about the KCL and he said the KCL doesn't

really prove too much - especially if they are trying

to determine if you have IC.

I would recommend having the procedure done. For no

other reason than to know there is nothing physically

wrong - which was the case for me. I was relieved,

but of course I got no answers to why I was having my

problems. I started feeling like I couldn't totally

empty my bladder back in December. I generally have

to sit there and concentrate to get a second flow

going to completely empty. I seem to only have pain

after sex - but that is not always. I have been

drinking cranberry juice and taking cranberry capsules

and I have been peeing right after sex. This seems to

help.

One other thing I wanted to mention. My urologist

told me IMMEDIATELY he saw no problems. I don't know

why you had to go back in for your results. Maybe the

KCL is different in that respect.

My urologist thinks there is probably something going

on with the nerves. He said nerves can become

sensitized anywhere in the body. He does not think it

is caused by trauma. Mostly he just wants me to go to

the vulvar specialist in a couple weeks and see what

he wants me to do after that appointment.

I really like my urologist. Maybe you could find

another one that you feel you can trust?

Amber,

First I want to know if you were sedated or they did the cystospopy in the

office, and did it hurt? I am SURE I will find another urologist because I

think the one I went to is a money grubber. I don't have bladder pain for

frequency, just pain in the urethra that comes and goes, so I suppose I

should rule out any abnormalities of the urethra?

They did not sedate me. I took a couple Tylenol about

30 minutes before the procedure. They first numb the

urethra by inserting a q-tip with the solution on it.

You wait about 10 minutes I think. Then they slide a

cathetor (I guess that is what it is) in and yes, it

does hurt like hell - but not for long. Then he

slowly fills up your bladder with fluid, which was way

less uncomfortable than I thought it was going to be -

not bad at all. Then he takes just a couple minutes

to scope out the bladder and urethra and you are done.

Now it hurts like hell again the first few times you

pee after the procedure and you will have a little bit

of bleeding for 24 - 48 hrs. afterwards.

The test can identify problems with the bladder AND

the urethra. I'm glad I had it done.

Lona,

If they are going to rule out IC then it's best to have it

done under general anesthesia b/c the stretching of the

bladder that has to be done can be quite uncomfortable if

done with the person awake. Plus, if they try to check for

IC in some one who is awake the dr will have a harder time

diagnosing the IC. Terry, one of the girls that sometimes

pops in on the list might also be able to help answer your

qeustions. If you would like to get in touch with her let

me know and I will give you her e-mail addy. I know that

if I am going to ever need a cystoscopy I will want it done

with me under general anesthesia. One of the reasons why

is b/c I wouldn't be able to tolerate the pain of the

cystoscope going in even with the local anesthetic.

I hope that this is of some help to you.

Amber,

If they were suspecting Interstitial Cystitis it's harder

to diagnose with the person awake b/c of the fact that the

bladder can't be stretched out as far as they need to go to

see the hemorrhages going on inside. Also they use a

cystoscope which from what I was told by another girl who

had it done awake it was quite big inside. That filling of

the bladder with liquid is what they call hydrodistention.

If you take a look at http://www.ichelp.org you will see in

even more detail why the cystoscopy must be done with the

person done under general anesthesia. Also when my friend

Terry comes back I will see if I can get her to share her

experience of having this done.

Lona, I had to have a cystoscopy because I have a neurogonic bladder. The purpose of the test was to look at my bladder. I am not an expert, but I don't understand how they could tell you what is wrong with your urethrea when the cystoscope basically looks into the bladder. I would ask about that before I had the test, because the test is really uncomfortable.

Subject: my appointment today

I went in for my follow up appointment today for the KCL test. I didn'tneed to go to get the information I got. Which was, as I knew, that I hadno bladder pain from it and did have pain on urinating it out. So why theoffice visit for that? Hmmm. Money???Then she told me I could have a cystocopy? Hope it got spelled right. Itold her the ICA does not recommend the KCL and she indignantly told me notto believe everything I read on the internet. She wanted to know if Iwanted to schedule a cystoscopy with the Dr. in their office. I said no,not in this office.CAN YOU TELL I AM TICKED???So, I have urethral pain, do I have that other procedure?Lonawho is sick to death of running to doctorshttp://tahomagirl.com*****END OF MESSAGE*****-------------------------------------------------To post message: VulvarDisorders To Subscribe: VulvarDisorders-subscribe Unsubscribe: VulvarDisorders-unsubscribe List owner: VulvarDisorders-owner *****
