Yesterday, was an all school dance. I was called about 10:00 am telling me that there would be no aide for Aislynn attending the after school event. She would still be allowed to go without one, but they wanted to give me the chance to go and act as her chaperone. I went. It was dark. It was loud. It was fun. About 100 6th, 7th, and 8th graders actually dancing! Aislynn had a blast. Since she was in the Dance Production group last year, she knows most of those girls, and they know her. THEY LIKE HER!!!!!!!!!!! I saw them take her hand and go dance with a group. She was dancing kinda awkward, (I suppose some would call it retarded) but they accept her and promote her amongst their friends. I spent the time roaming through the crowd just as another adult, and she gets on fine with the NT kids, in fact she doesn't really like the kids in sped all that much. One year, she asked me if she had to take the bus with them. I told her SHE had to learn tolerance. Plus, it was for her own safety, and that having a bus come to your door was great. She's okay with it now, (I think there was one girl bugging her). Anyway, retarded is as retarded does. My brother was called retarded, too, and I learned to feel sorry for those ignorant twits that did it. Barb

Guest guest
That is absolutely horrible. I would have hurt somebody. This is family and they are supposed to be supporting. How awful for you. Guest guest
Wow! So happy Aislynn had a great time. And as for people who make fun of our kids, I think " ignorant twits " says it all. Guest guest
It sounds like she had a ball. I am glad she is accepted by her peers. That means a lot. But then again, whats not to like she is a very pretty girl. Ginger __________________________________________________

She worked the whole year with them and had to audition for this group. She auditioned by herself, when all of the others were in a group. That was the first year for Dance Production, and they all made it, even though she was the best. They did struggle together, as Aislynn is rather stubborn when they wanted her to do stuff she has never learned in Dance school, but in the end, at the final school performance, they all shined, especially when she gave new meaning when they said " We take everyone who can dance. " Aislynn is like a kind of icon to some. It is so amazing to see kids this age so tolerant, but then, this is one of the melting pots of the world.
