Guest guest
I am always in bed by 10:00 and go to sleep easily. But unless I take something to help me sleep I am awake by 1 and toss and turn until morning. Even if I take something to sleep I still wake up by 4 or 4:30. I also have 2 cups of 1/2 caffeine coffee in the mornings. I haven't been able to give that up and like I'm not sure if I want to!!!! beebe Re: Hoping group members will " weigh in " I try and usually succeed in being in bed by 10PM. Guest guest
Oh yes, I comply because I can’t stay awake any later. I gave up caffeine a month ago because it virtually stopped working. I drink GanoCafe which has trace amounts of caffeine...it’s delicious. I also have one cup of green tea a day. --- E Silver wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: " j531234 " > > < Also diet is big- I do not do Bread, candy, > soda, sugar > > > > One more thing is sleep before 10:00pm everyday. > It's a must. < > > > I'm personally wondering how many group members > comply with the above? > > Do most get to bed by 10pm, and have most given up > their morning caffiene??? > > Answers will be helpful and motivating! > > Thanks, Liz > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
This is not a choice. Here is a list of all the things that drain your adrenals Coffee, Soda, Sugar, bread- not eating right Not enough sleep Energy robbers- Like bad relastinship, job stress etc Dental problems Leaky Gut Infection in the body somewhere. If you feel stressed at all during the day your adrenals are felling it. How will you get better until that low level stress is gone Jeff > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: " j531234 " > > < Also diet is big- I do not do Bread, candy, soda, sugar > > > > One more thing is sleep before 10:00pm everyday. Guest guest
If you don't feel stressed at all drink the coffee. If you hae any stress the coffee should go. Guest guest
No I usually go to sleep anywhere from 12 midnight to 2 am. I wake up around 10:30 a.m. to take my morning HC and if I need more sleep then I just turn over and sleep until I wake up. I never liked the taste of coffee and never drink it. Used to drink diet coke but the caffeine gives me little heart palps, and also gives me aspertame headaches. Stopped drinking diet coke about a year and a half ago. I just drink Aquafina bottled water now. > > Thanks, Liz __________________________________________________

Guest guest
The diet I definitely do well, getting to bed by 10:00 not so well. I have improved tremendously though in getting to bed earlier since starting cortisol replacement. It's helped me get my normal sleep cycle regulated, but it's still usually 11:00 at the earliest before I get to bed. Here is a list of all the things that drain your adrenals<< this may be a list from SOME doctors but not the ones I listen to. If you are exhausted from low thyroid and caffeine makes you feel more energy which in turn costs your adreanls less work to make up for the low metabolism how is that harmful? I have HEALED my adrenals with out giving up coffee. How fddo you figure i could have done that if it is so bad for our adrenals? I was hypo to the point of near death 10 years ago. Guest guest
I agree with Val, most of these lists are written for people who feel a bit run down - not people with major adrenal dysfunction who need serious support (i.e. hydrocortisone). If you are getting serious support for a serious problem, then a bit of caffeine here and there is not going to harm you. Conversely if all you do is go to bed early and avoid caffeine, you are not going to solve major adrenal problems. Just my 2 cents. . wrote: > > >>This is not a choice. Guest guest
Jumping in here, I have not given up caffeine. I love coffee. I did read that caffeine triggers adrenaline release, cortisol release- which might not be good for exhausted adrenals, and inhibits some hormone that promotes sleep. -- Re: Re: Hoping group members will " weigh in " >>This is not a choice. Guest guest
I don't know about caffeine, Jackie, but that IS the case with stimulants. I'll let you in on a little secret...once when I was in high school, 35 million years ago, I " acquired " a bit of speed, because I had a project to do & had majorly procrastinated. So I took it, and nothing happened. I couldn't figure out for the life of me what the big deal was! Never felt the need to try it again. It wasn't until years later, when my daughter was diagnosed with ADHD that I began to understand... : ) As for the coffee, maybe it's the Starbucks Effect...that's when the coffee gives you that warm relaxing feeling of lounging in a Starbucks rather than fighting traffic to get to work. Hey, if it works, go for it! > > Driving is major stress for me, but I have to get to places. The > coffee actually relaxes me. Guest guest
OOOHH, that's good stuff, . Thanks for sharing this. I don't think I could ever give up my morning coffee, and I've heard that the chemicals used in the decaffeinating process are toxic. So this gets rid if any lingering guilt I was feeling for being a coffee lover. Guest guest
I'm sending a very big THANKS out to the group; what a great response to my request for members to 'weigh' in on their bed times and caffiene use!!!! This is a great group! I love the diversity, discussion, and learning from one another. And I don't feel 'bad' for having a long way to go getting my habits and lifestyle more moderately healthy. ) Personally, I'll aim toward getting to bed by midnight and having a consistant bedtime. Caffiene-wise, I'll keep my diet cola to a minimum, knowing that my goal is to find and switch to a healthier caffiene vehicle which I can also enjoy. Thanks again, Liz
Guest guest
>>I'm personally wondering how many group members comply with the >>above? Do most get to bed by 10pm, and have most given up their >>morning caffiene??? Answers will be helpful and motivating! Thanks, Liz I used to drink a lot of caffinated soda about 10 years ago. I cut back on it when I discovered a breast cyst that suddenly went away after I was off caffeine for two weeks prior to a mammogram of it. Breast cysts can be caffeine-induced sometimes. I finally quit soda completely when I started running around 2002 and finally got good about incorporating more water into my diet. I don't drink soda at all now & don't miss it. It tastes " chemical " when I do try it. Around the same time, I started to cut down on my morning coffee. I used to have 2-3 cups. I slowly weaned down - weaker coffee, 1/2 cup less at at time, substituting with black tea then finally green tea. After about a year, I was on green tea only. Green tea has about 15mg of caffeine in it vs 85-130mg for coffee. I happen to also like tea, so I didn't find it a big hardship to substitute. The last year my hypo started to get worse & I has more stress, so I found myself creaping back up to 2 cups coffee in the a.m. I had absolutely no get-up-and-go without it. I'm slowly working my way back off of that. I'm back down to green tea & just 1 cup of coffee. I don't have any after 12pm, so that it's less likely to affect my sleep. Some days I'm able to skip the coffee completely & just have green tea. I reuse the bags for a second cup - most of the caffeine brews itself out in the first brew. The second brew is just flavor & antioxidants. I also find having a hot beverage is half of the soothing effect of coffee. Since I tend to be cold from the hypo, I've found just having a cup of hot water instead can be helpful. Not only does it warm you up inside, it's nice to wrap your cold hands around the mup to heat them up. I have a friend that used to live in Japan & she said it's not uncommon for them to do that there to " self-regulate " temperature.
Guest guest
Hey Liz - Diet Coke is probably one the the least-preferable ways to include caffeine in your diet. Among other things, it contains the chemical aspertame (Nutra-sweet) which has several neurological contraindications. The artificial sweetener also triggers your brain to expects sweet/carbohydrates. But when none are forthcoming, you end up craving carbohydrates, negating the whole point of drinking a zero- calorie beverage. I would suggest incorporating sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon juice or added fruit juice as one way to keep a healthier carbonated beverage in your diet. Consider getting caffeine from green tea or black tea. You'll be drinking a lot less chemicals and getting valuable anti-oxidants at the same time. Green tea tastes good cold too. If you want something sweet, add some organic honey. At least that isn't processed and has some beneficial enzymes in it. Or substitute 1 cup/day of brewed organic coffee, if you're into drinking coffee. It's still healthier than Diet Coke. Sugar has only 16 calories/tsp. Even if you add organic sweeteners like honey, I bet you can find a way to cut back calories elsewhere and get rid of the diet soda in your diet. You don't have to cut it out all at once. Start replacing just a few and gradually work your way up. Or drink only 1/2 a can instead of your usual full can. Throw the rest out. Your body will thank you. Really . Once you get used to not drinking it, you won't miss it. I can't drink the stuff now. Tastes like a bunch of yucky artifical chemical flavors to me. Which it is. Just a few ideas from a recovered Diet Coke addict >>Caffiene-wise, I'll keep my diet cola to a minimum, knowing that my >>goal is to find and switch to a healthier caffiene vehicle which I >>can also enjoy. Thanks again, Liz
Guest guest
One of the ways we got my youngest to drink water was to put fruit in it. She loves slices of lemon or lime, whole strawberries flavor the water nicely. Try any of your favorite fruits, much better than putting in sweeteners!! Nutrition should be fun and pleasing to all your senses. Linn > Hey Liz - Diet Coke is probably one the the least-preferable ways to > include caffeine in your diet. Consider getting caffeine from > green tea or black tea. Thanks ! All the suggestions are highly appreciated ... I need all the gentle kicks in the right direction that I can get! I consider myself to be a recovering diet cola addict, as I usually only have one can a day, and used to drink around 2 gallons of the stuff! I love the ice cold zing of carbonation, but I know that it is evil stuff ... even if they are now using Splenda - I believe it will prove to be as bad as aspartame. When conquering the 2 gallon addiction, I switched over to iced coffee in the am, then to Mate tea in the pm, and Red tea in the evening. It worked well, though now I basically just drink water since I had the Aquasana Filter installed under my sink. I haven't yet been able to give up that last can of diet cola ... but your suggestions are motivating me to try that hurdle in the very near future (after my diet is rearranged). I think I will enjoy the luxury of adding a slice of lemon to my water today! Thanks again, Liz
