Guest guest
Yes, Guy. It is very common. All of us know that almost any illness will cause a severe downturn in our LO's. And we all generally are on the lookout for an illness emerging when the cognitive/behavioral issues become more apparent. Your instincts are good on this one. My mom has been symptom free for awhile now, but lately she got sick with the flu and now her symptoms (cognitive and physical) have come back. Is this normal, do symptoms flare up whenever there is another problem with the body? In the past her symptoms used to flare up every single time when she had an UTI. However, I have kept those at bay with a cranberry supplement and she has been without an UTI for about 9 months now. I am just curious to know if having aggravated symptoms when there is another illness in the body common in other LBD patients. > > Thank you, > Guy >
Guest guest
My father definitely had flare ups. I'm not sure I could ever specifically time them to other illnesses. Dehydration was a problem. Once he got shingles and that did not seem to aggravate his LBD problems. I thought it would for sure. Do you think the flu caused some dehydration? Guest guest
Hi Guy, Personally, I did not notice that flare ups came with other symptoms of flu or cold etc. for my husband. But I did notice that the medications taken for particular sicknesses did cause my husband to have flare ups. Robitussin for one, was not good to have with a cold. He could only tolerate Robitussin with Guaifenesin Syrup for Congestion. So if your mom is/was on any medications for the flu/cold I would look into those. LBD has sensitivities to certain medications, even over the counter that cause them to have behavioral, cognitive and physical flare ups. Guest guest
Good morning, When my Mom had a bad cough (and pneumonia) I found a completely natural product in the drug store that seems to work very well - Chestal by Boiron. It's also got honey in it, which I hear is one of the best things to give for a bad cough. Regular Robitussin still has DM (dextromethorathan - sp?), just 5 mg less than Robitussin DM, so the last time Mom had a cough, I read labels in the local drug store for 20 minutes, and found the Chestal. The nurse practitioner likes the stuff, too. Guest guest
Guy, The first thing we always check is the UTI if there is a flare up in LBD symptoms. You may have kept UTI at bay and now it may be right with you. Have it checked out. Sorry for the delay in answering your message. I have been down with a bad cold.
