The Good: It was NOT a food-type allergy reaction! He can have sloppy joes

again!!!!!! <YAY!>

The Bad: It was nearly faded when we finally saw the doctor, indicative of a

contact allergy to...something. What? We don't know! Time for a scratch test.

<grrrrr>

The Ugly: They gave him Benadryl. TRIED to give him Benadryl. First liquid,

for 20 minutes -- didn't get more than 2 drops into him. Then in a capsule.

Did you ever see the scene in Encino Man where n Frasier is spitting out a

mouthful of bath beads? THAT. Went through three caps before we got sent out

of the room. Two hallways over, we still heard the screams, which suddenly

stopped. Went back. He was licking a popsicle. HE SWALLOWED IT? we asked.

Nope -- they gave up. Next would have been a needle, but they decided not to do

it because the rash was fading and obviously not going to spread to chest or

throat and they didn't want to traumatize him further. <sigh>

So that was our fun-filled evening. Cried all the way home out of sheer

exhaustion.

But he's okay!

PS we played " I Spy " while waiting for the doctor!!!

I can't believe I didn't even stop to think who it was. I

automatically assumed after THAT experience, it HAD to be you. LOL

Glad to hear that he is ok. Sorry about the scratch test....he won't like

that. Has he ever reacted like that before?

No, he hasn't. But I was talking to BJ offlist, and she pointed out how much

like a casein reaction it looked like, and it DID, his face was ALWAYS bright

red and raw before we cut out all casein...but darn it, I checked the

ingredients -- and *I* ate it and didn't get sick, so how could it have affected

him that way? (I get very sick from any cow's milk protein (albumin))

Oh, I don't know.

I think I'll hold off on a scratch test until it happens again -- I know a

scratch test would be mucho-traumatic!
