Guest guest
Joan, glad to hear you are out of the hospital and I know you are happy to be out and back to snuggling with the pups, but please take all the advice of the doctors and everyone else concerned and get that rest. Stay in bed except to potty, eat and potty your pups. Get Well Hugs, Love Billie & Tammy > > Hi to all, and thank you for all of your good wishes and prayers. > I hadn't been feeling too well for about a week before the spiking temp of 105. My normal temp is 96.8 and I was having 99 degree temps during the week, but doctors just don't recognize that as anything wrong. I had been to a doctor two weeks ago and I was feeling good that day. > The story keeps changing...even to me! > On Saturday morning I started to feel a little nauseous and then got the chills and when I took my temp it was 101.7. I laid down for a little bit and then I took my temp again and it was 103.2, but I remembered what my mom used to say - get under the blankets and the temperature will burn itself away and then you get better. I got back in bed and was shaking so bad that my teeth were chattering and then woke up about an hour later without chills, without teeth chattering and after going to the bathroom took my temperature...up to 105. I called Sharon because I know she used to work in a doctor office and also my other local friend who used to be an RN. My head was hurting real bad and I was more concerned that I was leaking spinal fluid than I was that my temperature was up to 105. > Needless to say, a 105 temp actually gets you seen in the ER a lot faster than some other ailments as they took me in right away. Blood tests, urine samples, EKG, chest xrays, etc. Within 30 minutes the ER had been called and told that I had a bad UTI, then the radiologist called to tell them that I had pneumonia, and then the lab called again because my potassium was dangerously low. Still not quite understanding the enormity of what was wrong with me, I just wanted to come home...they had different plans. I was admitted to the hospital and over the next several days had earned the title from one of the lab workers of the person who had the most blood drawn in one day, and also had a flood of doctors coming in and out of my room. The primary doctor called for a consult with an Infectious Disease doctor who said that I had the community acquired pneumonia which is normally not as serious as hospital acquired pneumonia. There was concern about my history of pneumonia, my history from last year with the back surgeries and spinal fluid leakage, my hepatitis B, and the abnormal EKG. So, I had CAT scans that showed that I had full blown pneumonia and a fatty liver due to the hepatitis; the heart stress test that showed that my heart is in good shape, and thent eh differing opinions regarding UTIs. Today the Infectious disease doctor said I do have a staph UTI. So, now I am on two different types of antibiotics, a probiotic, respiratory inhalers, etc. I have to follow up with my primary doctor in a week or so, and have to take it easy and get a lot of rest so that the pneumonia and UTI go away completely. > I admit that I get through each day by diverting my attention from what is wrong with me, and therefore don't pickup on the signs that I am becoming ill, and I guess I do take better care of my chihuahus, Dolly & Desi than I do of myself. > Thank you all for your friendship and prayers. I hope to be writing very soon that I have a clean bill of health, but there are still tests that remain in the coming weeks to shore up all of the loose ends and make sure that everything has been properly diagnosed and treated. > Love to all, > Joan >
