, I'm in the same place. I really think Mikey would benefit worlds

from an anti-anxiety type med but I absolutely hate the idea of medicating

my 2 year old. And I don't know that anyone will. Everyone tells me he's

too young...but what are we supposed to do in the meantime?

I guess all we can do is talk to drs, try things out, and see what happens.

If a med does wonders - hooray! (And I have heard some amazing stories,

like whoever's kid on this list it was who started to talk when he started a

med.) If it doesn't, you can always stop giving it to him.

All kids react differently to meds. The goal is to get one to improve the

behaviors and help the child without removing the natural personality. One

we tried on left him more angry and tearful and quiet. is

generally a very happy go lucky outgoing, major league hyper kid. I told

the Dr. to tell me how to wean him off it because it was destroying his

personality.

If a med you try changes him in a negative manner for more than a few days

(the adjustment period), then tell the Dr.. You just try something until

it's right for him.

Wishing you good luck!'

Pam,

I'm still waiting on appointments. He sees his regular pediatrician often but

would he be the one to prescribe? Who?? His ped. can't seem to get him in

anywhere...everywhere is booked for months and months. Poor Trevy needs help

with his temper...his moods. He can be so uncontrollable..hurt his older

brother and sister..run into the door and fall on the floor and hurt himself.

Tonight he has started something new...he has started picking the paint off the

walls. I live in an apartment complex..it's not acceptable. What to do? What

to do?? :) I'm SO tired of waiting on these darn appointments. How long did it

take to get your children in to see the doctors??

Hugs, MElanie

I think depending on your pediatrician's experiences with young children and

medications...it is possible he could prescribe something. Perhaps he could

consult on the phone with a child psychiatrist and get some feedback about

what would work best for your son's symptoms. I did wait awhile initially

when I made medication evaluation appointments and I know how hard that

waiting is.

Tom,

How old are you and what are the details of your situation? I don't know

about meds, but perhaps some of us can provide advice that can help with

more information.

And I agree, freedom is what everyone wants and we'll offer what advice we

can to help you keep yours.

I have heard that very small doses of ritalin helped grown auties.

before trying that changing your diet also helps from my own experience.

it's strange what small changes can do, a lot of us are intolant of

certain foods or tings in the enviroment...
