Guest guest
Phil, A very small number of LBDers in our local support group get feeding tubes. There is some research that indicates it simply prolongs suffering in those with dementing illnesses. Did you discuss the feeding tube possibility with your mom when she was diagnosed? Or did the diagnosing neurologist discuss this with her? Does she have written advance care directives? I forget if your mom is seen at the SF VA, UCSF, or elsewhere. Many major medical facilities have social workers who can help you think through this problem. Many hospice agencies offer palliative care. Give me a call (after tonight's LBD support group meeting) if you want to discuss some agencies that others in our group have used. And...you might review the latest LBDA publication on hospice care and palliative care in LBD.
