Hi all,

There is a question here from someone who had Chiari surgery. I don't know

if someone from the list asked it or not. I just thought maybe someone

would like to reply?

Love,

Maureen

PMS

I relate to what you are going through. Every month for about 2 weeks I

suffered with PMS. I started taking 2 Ultravite daily, along with Vites and

Evening Primrose Oil. I have been taking Ultravite (or vitamins similar to

it) for about 12 years and it

has helped a lot. I would find myself being so mean to my children and my

husband. I knew I was doing it but could not help it.

Stomach pain

I have been waking up at 2:00 in the morning with stomach pain for the last

three years. Some nights are worse than others. It occurs 6 to 7 hours

after eating dinner. I had a blood test today for H. pyroli. I will get

the results in 3 days. Can

anyone who has had this problem let me know how their stomach felt (i.e.

describe the pain, what seemed to temporarily help it like tums or water,

and when the pain hit them).

Thanks,

Bulimia

What is with a hospital system that won't allow a willing patient to

register as a patient? I have a 13-year-old cousin who has admitted to me

that she has an eating disorder, specifically bulimia. I went through the

same thing for two years and I know

the devastating things that happen physically and mentally. I didn't want

her to go through the same thing so I tried to sign her in for an outpatient

therapy program at the LIJ hospital in New Hyde Park, LI, NY. They told me

I can't register her

because I am not the primary guardian. I told her parents about the

problem, and they do not believe she has any problems at all.

Their acknowledgement of the disease has finally set in. I know they mean

well but their way of dealing with it is to force her to eat, which makes

her condition worse. I can tell when she has thrown up and it makes my

heard hurt at what she must be

going through emotionally and physically. I want to help her but I don't

know what else to do. I was able to get out of it, but with much

soul-searching. And it was a long hard trip. I want to save her the pain.

Arnold Chiari's Malformation

I recently had brain surgery on the above. Has anyone out there had this

type of surgery or know the recovery time? It seems so slow getting better

and I still fall from dizziness.

Alcoholism

Hello--I am a recovering alcoholic (16 1/2 years); I learned a LOT about the

disease after I quit drinking and joined a support group at a local Center

for Substance abuse.) One of the things that was clear is that tolerance of

alcohol IS hereditary. My

father's father was so severly affected that my grandmother made him stay in

the attic, one of the few times we went to see them. I only met him once;

he died of his disease when I was 12 or so, I think.

I was able to quit drinking; I was lucky.... I only had the gene on his

side of the family. Maybe that made it easier to stop, after 13 years.

With some people, it's a lot tougher. For one thing, my mother divorced my

father when I was 4 (for

reasons not directly relaated to alcoholism; my father was an " Adult Child

of Alcoholic).

I hope this helps! Good luck to you.

Ear Buzz(ring)

First of all how old are you? Ear buzzing or ringing is also known as

tinnitus and is very common in older men in their 50's on up. It is quite

common and quite annoying. My father has it and it really annoys him. There

aren't that many answers for this .

Relieve the stressors in your life (yeah right) and control your diet and

eat right that is what he found on one internet site. Good luck!

Lactose intolerance in 3 yr old child

You should immediately have your child tested for a milk allergy or allergy

to casein a protein found in milk. Many children with these allergies later

develop autism or ADHD. Has your child had many ear infections or other

upper respiratory infections?

Try changing your child to soy milk to see if this helps it has as much

vit. A, D, Calcium, iron, etc. and cut out all dairy. get a childs good

bacteria to add to apple sauce, etc. A good holitic medical

(MD.)practicioner can do these tests and oversee

your childs diet.

Regarding Restless Leg Syndrome.

Can anyone tell me if there is a " rhythm " to RLS. It seems that the movement

comes every 20 seconds or so. Is this a sign of RLS or should I be looking

somewhere else? My husband is experiencing these movements in his legs and

its causing alot of problems

in his sleep and mine. I appreciate any response.

Planter Fasciitis

HELP! I've been suffering from this since last October in my left foot. I

have had a total of 3 cortisone shots and about 5 or 6 nerve blocks. As

soon as the shots wear off, I'm back where I started. I also had orthotics

made for me for $300.00.

Could use any and all advise.

Fragile x syndrome

I am really scared, my 1 year old is now going through the testing to

determine if he has this problem. He is now in physical and occupational

therapy. I desperately want to talk to someone who is dealing with this

issue. Will my son be able to live a

normal life or is this a degenrative problem. What are the odds of me

having another baby with this if I am a carrier?

Scoliosis

My daughter is 12.6 yrs. old. She has an s-shaped curve with each measuring

at 30 degrees. She has been wearing a boston brace faithfully for 1 and a

1/2 years. She has grown almost 4 inches and is now 5ft.2 " tall. Since

wearing the brace, both curves

have been maintained. At our orthopedpic appt. last week, our doctor said

from looking at xrays and by the way the cartilidge is closing in,a growth

spurt is evident and this next stage of growing is most critical. If there

is anyone who could enlighten me

if they have gone through or are going through a similar situation thus

far,in wearing the brace compliantly, and whether or not the brace continued

to maintain the curves in this final stage, your response would greatly be

appreciated!

Thankyou,

Fran

Crohn's research

A few weeks ago I posted a message asking for suggestions on how to get

treatment for Crohn's when I don't have any medical insurance. The responses

from people was very supportive but no one had an answer. I have found one

way to get help.University of

Pittsburgh has a couple of research projects going on now. I fit the

criteria for one of them. (Once I qualified I didn't check out the other).

It is a double-blind, phase III study of recombinant human interleukin 11

(rhIL-11) for the treatment of

Crohn's. It is a study to find the effective dosage. They've already

determined that it works for Crohn's, they are studying if 1mg./week or

2mg./week is more effective. There is a 3rd. branch; the control/placebo

branch. I got the first shot last Tues. &

am convinced that I didn't receive the placebo. The effect has been

dramatic! I have no pain & the diarhea has stopped.

For further info. you can e-mail Ms. K. Foley at foleykr@... for

further information.

RSD and social security

Although I do not have RSD, I did have to fight to get SS disability for

another problem...the further you go at trying, the better your chances at

getting it...get an SS advocate...you'll see them in the paper or phone

book. They will take up to 25% of

the initial settlement or $4000, which ever is less. I was denied twice,

then got an advocate, went before a SS judge and was finally approved, with

benefits going back to the time I originally applied. Good Luck!

Skin Rash

I do suffer from skin rash too mostly around my wrists, palms and feet. I

thought it was due to a fungus, but my dermatologist told me that i just have

extremely dry skin. I can't even stay longer than 10 minutes in the shower

without itching like crazy

all over my body. So my advice to you is Use a lot of body lotion for dry or

sensitive skin(one with steroids such as the cortisone family). That's what

i do and it helps a lot. Good luck and good health!
