Guest guest
Cory, I do see improvement in the ear asymmetry! That is very encouraging for parents of younger babies. I really appreciate you documenting it with photos; it's very informative about the effect of repoing early! We set our deadline at 8 mos. of age, 3 months of repo. Please keep in mind that we had no ear asymmetry, facial asymmetry, or forehead bossing. Our repo was extremely agressive, and the fact that we were seeing great results played a part in us setting the deadline at 8 months. In most situations, babies that are really mobile are very difficult to repo, but we were fanatical and did get results from repoing until a later age. Since we wanted to keep our helmeting options open, as well as making sure we HAD the helmet by our deadline, we started all of the pre-work well before Remy was 8 months old. We researched and found lots of helmet/band successes on babies who started at 8 months or older. This deadline was our personal decison, which I don't think would be appropriate for others. For some babies, repo is just not an option that will deliver desired results (tort, marked plagio, marked asymmetry, childcare situation, busy household, etc.) For those parents trying repo, I would feel comfortable myself recommending a deadline of around 6 months in general. Ultimately it is a personal decision! Considerations to take into account would be the degree of ear and facial asymmetry, and whether or not you are seeing good success with repo after a couple of months. Generally, the later you start the helmet/band, the longer the treatment may be, and possibly the less complete correction will be. Setting the deadline is a personal decision with so many variables to consider, but it is essential in truly evaluating repo success and preparing you for a timely transition to the option of helmet/band therapy if you find it necessary. I am so thrilled that you started repoing so young; if you decide to band, think of how you reduced the work that the band will have to do, possibly dramatically shortening treatment time! Take care, and let us know how the appt. goes at the end of the month, Christie --- In Plagiocephaly , " Cory Schwemley " <cory6@c...> wrote: > Christie - You can see the difference in his ear asymmetry by looking at the > very first picture.
