Below are directions that you make your own square and become part of the

first Chiari Quilt! There are directions for both those that enjoy playing

with fabric and those that don't, so please take a look and see if you can

help us spread the word about the many faces of Chiari.

Only those diagnosed with Chiari will be represented on the quilt. A

donation is requested (but not required) for each block to help with the

cost of the batting, backing and thread.

Volunteers are needed to help sew and scan images for the photo transfer. I

have a quilting group who will quilt the finished quilt top.

We may be able to put together a booklet to go with the quilt to hand out.

We will collect information on the form for this purpose. If there are more

blocks than needed for the quilt, we will use those on a first come - first

" quilted " bases. If there are enough blocks, another quilt or wallhanging

will be made.

Please mail the blocks to me by April 1, 2000.

****For those that enjoy working with fabric:

Please make a square for the quilt. Each square should be 8 1/2 inches

square, unfinished. Ideas for the block include piecing, applique, photo

transfer, or using permanent ink fabric markers and making your own designs.

Really anything goes! Each block should include the name and city, state or

country of the Chiari person. More information can be added if you desire.

The colors of the block are your choice.

Please use 100% cotton fabric cut squarely on the grain. The finished block

(when it is all sewn together) will be 8 inches square, so do not put

anything that you want to be seen in the 1/4 " inch from the edge. Also do

not put any embellishments such as beading or buttons in that area.

Please include a $3 donation (international Chiari folks, please email me

first). Also complete the form at the bottom of this email and send it with

your block. If you would like us to mail an 8 1/2 inch white cotton square

to you, please send me a self addressed stamped envelope and we will put it

in the mail.

****For those that are sewing " challenged " :

You will create an 8 inch block and we will use a photo-transfer technique

to put it on the fabric. Cut an 8 inch square block from white paper. Add

a picture, printing, coloring, typed and pasted text, or whatever you wish

to the 8 inch square piece of paper. The paper needs to be flat (nothing

sticking up on it or 3-D) so that it can be scanned. Securely pasted photos

and text are fine. Each square should include at least the name and

city/state or country of the Chiari person. These can not be returned to

you.

Please include an $8 donation (international Chiari folks, please email me

first). Also complete the form at the bottom of this email and send it with

your block.
