Guest guest
Hi April We also took my daughter's band off a few times a day and let her head dry, and the band. (just a few minutes each time), but that seemed to help. While the rash is going you can also use a low % hydrocortisone cream. I would have said 1%, but read from 's reply that they have a 0.5% out. Didn't know that. ) Good luck Sandy Willow's Mom Wishing a Merry Christmas > > Our son is on his 3rd week of therapy. We noticed a rash yesterday > under and around his band. Guest guest
Hi April I'm a firm believer that prevention is better than cure on this one- my daughter was a real sweaty Betty, plus she used to get sooo itchy if she got heat rash, the band would inevitably have to come off, so missing valuable correction time. So, I would keep your son very cool indeed, turn the central heating down so you are quite chilly, dress him very lightly, no socks, just a onsie or cotton clothes, and take the helmet off every now and again like the others suggest- I used to whip it off at the first sign of trouble (if he itches once, take it off for 10 min). You don't say how old your son is- I even used to limit my daughters really vigorous activity (such as going in the jumperoo) til her our off, but she really did have sensitive skin. Some kids adjust really well to the extra heat and others take longer and seem to suffer more with it. By keeping him really cool (the helmet is like an extra layer of insulation, so he will be plenty warm), you will avoid this problem in the first place. Central heating is a lot to blame- it feels nice to us, but probably feels like a furnace to them!!! Good luck- hope the cream suggestions help as well. Guest guest
Our girl had that by day 7. We kept the helmet off til it was done (about 2 days). CT (cranial tech) did not approve but we did it anyway. Her head was HORRID and nearly bleeding. Needless to say she got thru the treatment and adjusted fine. We kept her naked most of the time the first month! Just a diaper and kept the heat down in her room. > > Our son is on his 3rd week of therapy.
