Guest guest
I have done several online IQ tests out of interest. They regularly come out about 10 - 15 points above the reality. Often this is because they are hoping the user will buy a product, usually a more detailed report than the free edition. The cognitive profile of people with ASD generally includes great discrepancy between subtests. When this happens, it is nonsense to allocate an overall IQ score because it bears no relationship to your overall functioning. A credible psychologist will explain that to you and will not allocate an overall score. > I've heard that some IQ tests show higher or lower scores than other > ones. Guest guest
Hi Gprobs, Mine is quite credible, and gave me about 14 pages of breakdowns, including many details about how I used one skill to compensate for lack of another. I think she explained it pretty well, but i am still getting used to all the emotions that go with it. I do not like the idea of bieng lonely. I love being online with other ASD folk, since I know I fit in here- even when I don't. (Is there such a thing as not fitting in here?) the person I went to was not trying to sell me anything, and did not make any recommendation for continued use of her services per se, but gave me a huge number of great ideas. Some are not even that expensive. One was about Meyer's book! I will have to check it out. I can relate to the hype that is out there with regard to selling products. Those guys give the same results to anyone who takes their tests-- when I was in college, a bunch of my classmates did the free test just to debunk its accuracy, for one local company that was trying to sell its product. We all had a good laugh over it, at the time. gprobs wrote: I have done several online IQ tests out of interest. They regularly come out about 10 - 15 points above the reality. Guest guest
I dont fit in here very well. it is why I only post occaisionlly. anyway, thats not a big issue. Where is this very good online test? > > I've heard that some IQ tests show higher or lower scores > than other > > ones. Though sometimes it is kinda fun to be more of a loiterer. I often don't relate that well to this list either, but I like reading it. Genyin -- " I know the answer! Guest guest
There is such a wide range of personality types on this list that I don't know who does or doesn't fit in here. I guess we all do, or none of us do... > > i dont know. have had problems in the past. > > > > > I dont fit in here very well. it is why I only post occaisionlly. > > > > > > Can you say why? Guest guest
Hi Tom and , When I first joined, I was not too sure if I would be accepted, because I had managed not to fit into so many things! I have learned that it is a consequence of being AS, and that people here do tend to be way more tolerant of differences, as well as social errors. Guest guest
> Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean we *should* all fit in or none of us > *should* fit in. I meant that it is only a matter of perspective whether or > not anyone fits into this group. There are so many different types of people > here that there really is no " in " . I guess it depends how you feel, and how others in the group respond to you. There are online groups I'm in that I love, feel a valid part of and that I can help and be helped. There are other groups that I feel more on the edge of. That's OK; it would be unrealistic to expect to " fit " everywhere. It's harder for people who either don't have the energy/time/internet access to try various groups or who seem unable despite trying to find a place they belong. I was lucky that my first real AC e-mail list, inlv, was an amazing environment when I joined. It means I know it can work for me. Some unfortunately never get this experience. Guest guest
lol i have done this before. all my details are there. it drove me crazy the first time and it still is annoying. I don't think it is an IQ test. maybe more a test for social functioning but I think the questions are not really specific. for example: This question seems to be the most bizarre of all: Are you sometimes afraid in safe situations? Good grief. if I am safe, I don't feel afraid. If I feel afraid, I am not safe. People find different situations safe/unsafe. i feel safe walking around my house but a person with visual challenges is going to be unsafe in my house because I keep a lot of things on the floor. I feel very unsafe in my daugher's house because she has lots of huggers who visit and just walk in. I don't know if she feels safe in my house because I have not asked. I feel safe camping in my little tent alone in the bush. Lots of people would be too scared to do that. They don't have a box for my answer. > > > I've heard that some IQ tests show higher or lower scores > > than other > > > ones. Guest guest
> Even if you feel that way, we ASD folk deal with facts more easily than feelings. I have no facts at all to indicate that you do not fit in, and can find plenty of evidence that you do. Hope this makes you feel better-- oh well! You fit in fine, anyway! hmmm, I wonder if it's helpful to tell someone who feels they aren't fitting that they are. It's the kind of thing NT folks have done to me far too much and always makes me feel invalidated despite it's done through good intentions. I tend to agree that those pave the way to hell. I dunno ... Genyin -- " I know the answer! The answer lies within the heart of all mankind! The answer is twelve? I think I'm in the wrong building. " M.
