Yes, , this all sounds familiar when thinking of Mom. She could *never*

balance a checkbook and math was a terrible topic for her, even when I was

young. For that reason, we didn't think anything of it when Mom started asking

me to take care of financial things for her. She asked me to write checks for

her when her hand tremor worsened (mild, even at that) and when her handwriting

became increasingly smaller. Again, we didn't think a lot of this because the

tremors were not frequent and the doctors didn't seem concerned. I guess this

was the waiting period for them.... (Mom was closely monitored between 1996 up

to now because of a brain tumor. She was MRI'd and CT scan'd annually for fear

of a recurrence. Tremors were first noted in 2004 but with the notation that it

was momentary and not repeated.)

I remember my grandmother (Mom's mother) hiding money around her apartment.

Then again, she lived in an apartment building in New York City, alone, after my

grandfather died some years before that. It was reasonable to see her fear and

the reasons for hiding money. We didn't think much of it when Mom would, on a

rare occasion, hide money because she also grew up in the tenements in New York

City where caution was necessary.

Mom would give things away, as well as money. She was always kind and generous

(within her means) so we didn't experience the fear of someone stealing her

money from her, thankfully.

, do you know if other forms of dementia exhibit the concerns over

money? The only resident in Mom's unit that has ever mentioned money (beyond

the ones I suspect may be in the very early stages of LBD) was only diagnosed

several years ago with Alzheimer's; it is easy to see the tremors in her hands

which may indicate something else is at work.

Thanks for posting the reference message. Every little bit of insight helps to

put the puzzle together and make coping more manageable.

Best wishes,

Lynn in Florida
