Guest guest
Limin, thanks for posting the b complex you chose. All.. My daughter has pyroluria. She is going through an intense stressful time after our move and on top of that her p5p started making her more nauseated than usual. We switched to before bed dosing a while ago and this helped. After our move, she has been experiencing nausea quicker before she can get to sleep. Now she is terrified of taking the p5p. We are using the Thorne brand. She was taking close to 100mg fine (we worked up to that amount based on dream recall.. both of my kids do not remember dreaming and did at 100mg of p5p).. brought it down one third recently and I dont know if that is a factor or not. Any ideas? Maybe she should take with food? Its not helping not having the p5p exp during this period. She is getting a Thorne b complex that contains 20 mg of b6 and 3.4 mg of p5p and handles that fine.. Maybe we need to switch to b6 or double this to two capsules? I thought the tummy issues were more associated with B6 and not p5p. Thanks, Robin
Guest guest
Robin, In the past, Dr. Yasko recommended for those who do not tolerate P5P well to take some magnesium with it. In a couple of other autism forums, there have been parents' reports that this does seem to work for their children. Generally speaking, P5P (pyridoxal 5'phosphate) is better tolerated than B6 (pyridoxine). One hypothesis is that pyridoxine toxicity is caused by exceeding the liver's ability to phosphorylate pyridoxine to P5P, yielding high serum levels of pyridoxine which may be directly neurotoxic or may compete with P5P for binding site, resulting in a relative deficiency in P5P. Though there have been individuals' reports that they do better with B6 than P5P. I don't know an efficient way to figure out which form to take and what dosage. Some doctors just recommend to experiment with both forms to see which form one can do better with. Sorry, I am not very helpful here. Guest guest
Thank you, Limin. She does take a mag malate pill with the p5p.. I'll see if she'll try a liquid form and if that makes a diff. She was fine with the nighttime dose and fell asleep quickly..maybe stress, separation from her cats is keeping her awake longer.
