Guest guest
Hi All, love u all, and pray for u all. I moved my Mom to a new nursing home about 20 days ago. She was at a very very old stinky n.h. that had no activities to do much at all, but it was all I could do at the time and thankful I got her into this one and she was called MEDICAID PENDING. Meaning I paid her full SS check minus $60 for her spending use only, until Medicaid approved her for full time nursing home care, which she got in 30 days approved. It is now paying for her nursing home care, but a person has to pay the entire SS check and get to keep $60 for their personal needs. The old home used Medicare to pay for her " skilled nursing " (rehab), they get a lot of money when they do this to their patients. So she did about 80 days there of that and I still paid her monthly SS check to them. At the new home which she has been to in the past many times for " skilled nursing " (rehab) for 30 days each time after a surgery, I paid them the full amount of her SS check August 1st, minus the $60. She is finished up with her " skilled nursing " now. So Medicaid pays for her full time care now, which means she still pays her SS minus the $60 and medicaid pays the rest, which can be around $4,000 or so medicaid is responsible to pay the nursing home for her care, and she pays her SS check which is close to $1,000. The nurses at both of these homes knows she has LBD. She still hallucinates but she is fully aware of everything and everybody that is going on. Very bright lady. She just talks to people who are not there thats all she does. She hasn't tried to run away at either of these homes. Like at my house where she lived for 15 yrs. the last year she got LBD (she's 86), and she was running away from my house and falling down. She is more stable now. She is on Seroquel, Aricept. My question if anyone might know, and I'm really not going to stress myself out over this, but has anyone that has their LO in nursing home, do they do " skilled nursing " (rehab), and do they still request her SS check while they are getting paid from Medicare? This is just something I wanted to let you all know and please ask for prayers for this statement. My Mom has really liked this new home I just moved her to 20 days ago, as she has been there many times in the past and knows lots of people, nurses, aides, people who live there. She has felt comfortable. Her room has been comfortable, nice and comfy, (she freezes to death and wears a sweater at all times and warm clothes), well, Friday night she woke up freezing to death in her room. She told me yesterday that the maintence man came in and he messed around with the temperature controllers that are out in the hallway that control the patients rooms for that long hallway. And it got cold in there. So she told an aide if he could please turn the air off, he couldn't because those have to be controlled out in the hall and there is a key and he can't do that, but he did close her vents, but she was still cold. And her roommate never is in that room, she is wheeled out at 5:00 a.m. and then back to bed at 9:00 p.m. every day, and she has dementia, so Mom asked her if she was cold, but she didn't really feel any different, she has bad dementia so she doesn't know the difference. Yest., Mom talked to a few of the other aides complaining, she never complains, but she can't take it when its cold and I remember her being there in the past now where her rooms were sometimes very cold and she caught pnemonia once in one of them. She is so afraid she will catch a cold, the flu, or pnemonia from that cold air blowing on her face at night while she sleeps. During the day she wheels herself to the dining room to eat 3 times a day, to play bingo, so she isn't in the room constantly, but she loves her privacy and likes to stay in her room, not in the hallway where it is a little bit warmer. Its a shame, I got her over there and now this problem. I had a problem with this n.h. back last Nov. and had it out with them, as they told me Mom didn't have dementia! And thats when I had to bring her home. It wasn't pretty. But I did not like her old stinky n.h. and I guess I was desperate and called this n.h. to see if they had a medicaid bed opening which they did, and thats why I got her moved over there. It was a little embarrassing to see the ones that upset me, but I am a Christian and forgive. And so far no problems there, up until now with her freezing. She knows I will take care of her and be her advocate! I went with her to the nurse yesterday and she told her she was still freezing, but the nurse said she couldn't feel it cold, I told her I'm always hot but my arms were very cold and it was cooler in there than usual. She said all she could do was get maintenance. Well, he is the one that won't do anything about it. Plus, he was real rude to us 2 weeks ago when I brought her TV up there and he said THERE IS ONLY LIKE 3 OR 4 CABLE TV STATIONS, SO GOOD LUCK!!! Real hateful. We didn't say a word. I am praying when I go up there today that someway somehow they did something to get her room back nice and comfy and not cold in there. As I am going to hate to go to the office staff, the ones who gave me trouble last Nov., and ask them nicely if there is anyway the thermostat can be changed to get my Mom's room warm again, that she is freezing and I'm afraid she will catch a bad cold and pnemonia. I am dreading that and praying I won't have to. But I can't have my Mom getting sick up there as when she does, its not pretty, it takes her forever to get well, and she will be 87 Sept. 14th, and its like will one more bout of pnemonia be the last for her?? God help us. Thank you all for your prayers, much needed, and I am leaving this in GOD'S HANDS, JESUS HEALS AND HE DIED ON THE CROSS FOR OUR BURDENS. AMEN Love and HUGS, in Texas
