Guest guest
I hope everyone has read or will read 's post. He gets right to the heart of the matter. The main opposition to increased education is the Fire Chiefs, not the rank and file. The Fire Chiefs have, in my judgment, taken a very shortsighted view of their needs and if their position prevails, it will hurt them in the long run. The public, if informed, will opt for increased standards, including more education, for those providing EMS. Many fire departments have already adopted a higher education requirement for applicants, and police departments are way ahead of us. Even in the face of the problems we'll all be facing as a result of the HCFA funding proposals, the time is here for improvement in EMS education. This should not be seen as a threat to EMS but as an opportunity to serve the people better. I hope the Fire Chiefs will consider the long term consequences rather than the short term. Improved educational standards will, in truth, help the fire services who provide EMS by insuring adequate funding and public support.
