Guest guest
Although MAST trousers have not yet been eliminated from the current EMS training curriculums, there is a lot of controversy about them. My own medical director does have protocols for them, but does not really seem to encourage their use. Nor do any of the physicians in the local ers. I have only seen them used in the field one time and they did help. I saw a critical car vs. ped pt who's BP was bottoming out actually gain some benefit. We did of course have two large bores on the guy and we only used the mast pants to stabilize the pelvic fracture he had. The improvement in his BP was a nice side effect essentially. The pt had not penetrating trauma to the abd or thorax, nor did he seem to have any internal bleeds in the abd. W. , LIC-P CCFD/EMS
