Guest guest
hi ann and all....i thought i would post to the group, instead of privately on this topic because there seems to be alot of ?'s along the same line in the past few days re: what dr's think and don't think....of course, i can only speak from personal experience when i say " go w/ your gut feeling " !! my husband, david, was at the point of daily, debilitating headaches when we finally got a diagnosis....yes, there are lots of risks to surgery of any kind and that goes w/out saying for brain surgery!!! david had many initial problems following his decompression and subsequent need for a vp shunt a few days later....BUT, he is 6 1/2 mos. post op and HASN'T HAD ONE HEADACHE, excpet for the day he was getting the flu....like his neurosurgeon says (and i have to give her a plug, because she is wonderful!!! dr. sherry apple w/ the neurological associates in charleston, wv) said, " you are human, you're going to get headaches!!!, so don't freak out over every one!!! " ....yes, there are still folks who have problems following their surgeries and my heart and prayers go out to them, because as you know, they are expecting a miracle!!! i know we certainly were....my best advice is again, go w/ your gut feeling and trust God to handle the rest....we prayed ALOT for an answer to david's problems that went undiagnosed for many years....we had just reached the point that we just handed it over to Him and put our faith in Him and trusted Him to do what was best for david....it was a tought thing to do, ...i myself am still recovering from guillain barre syndrome from 1997....we have had a rough 3 years....we had our third son, i got sick w/ gbs and was paralyzed for 5 months, david had a major job change, then the chiari !!! i can only say what worked for us and that was finally surrendering our fears and trusting and believing....you sure can't call daily headaches and being in bed " living " , so we were just at that point....you will have to sincerely assess your situation and weigh the risks....my prayers are w/ you....take care, becky in wv
