hmmm not sure if this is a mistake but its a problem :)

Montery Jack, and Swiss Cheese both seem to have a lot of carbs or something

that make me go up and stay up (not high, but more than usual)

Had about 4 oz of Swiss Cheese last night, was at 104 and normally i'd have

stayed around 104, but with this, i was up to 140 for like 4 hrs. this is

not the first time with this... so its going back to the list of one slice

with a burger or something, but not a bunch plain as a snack.

I've had the same experience with plain Monteray Jack cheese, but if it has

the jalepenos in it, i'm fine... go figure.

I'm currently experiementing with some low fat, sugar free yogurt, 21 carbs

per cup, but i've read that you can eat it cuz the cultures eat the sugar....

I ate it at 9:30, was at 111, sooo at 12:30 i'll test its the way i can learn

how foods react to me :)

I found a real neat solution for that in the drug store (CVS). It was a

package of 2, foam rubber containers that the vials fit in to, and they

are each a different color.

They also have an area to write on the type of insulin.

They are sold mainly to prevent vial breakage (per the package).

Let me think of some of the mistakes I have made on

this journey:--- I think I am perfect however. so I am

really having to think.

(Are you ready for a long list: - 2 little mistakes I

have made are: Forgetting to take syringes with me on

a vacation trip:(I found a local hospital was eager to

help me with a few replacements and the Pamida store

said I could come in and they would call my Dr. to get

a few. [also found I didn't have to have a script for

insulin purchase at Walgreens when I forgot to take it

on a trip.- YES I AM FORGETFUL-and my husband helps me

pack sometimes and we mix signals!!])

2. Before my Dr. changed me to insulin I experienced a

high blood sugar of 300 [i had NOT even eaten for 12

hours and not incorrectly]..so I took more of my

prescription without calling the Dr. WOW did I get

chewed out when I fessed up to it.... (even if it was

the 4th of July and his birthday) God bless him. He

passed away recently and I miss his caring.

Will look forward to hearing of some goofs others have

made. I will probably think of much worse ones now.,

Fran

My craziest mistake when I was first dxed was to develop a fear of food. I

was overwhelmed with my dx and unsure what to eat. So, I didn't eat enough,

skipped meals and felt crummy most of the time. My blood sugar levels

dropped LOW. Within a week, though, I had researched enough on-line and in

books and was eating much healthier.

Hubby's biggest mistakes......taking normal humalog dose while experiencing

severe gastric upset that indicated food wasn't being absorbed and

accidentally confusing the insulin bottles

My mistake...

I'm a pretty compulsive person . I'm an adult onset type 1 and try for tight

control and test a lot and shoot insulin multiple times per day. But one

night about a year after diagnosis I ate dinner at a friend's house and

TOTALLY forgot to test before eating and to take insulin for meal. Naturally

it was a disaster. I chalked that one up to a brief episode of Denial (but

it felt so GOOD not to have to keep diabetes at the top of my mind!) I've

never let my guard down after that one. Vicki

One of my biggest mistakes was in not educating my dh on symptons of

hypoglycemia. Especially when I started the starlilx and not showing him how

to test my sugar. I have had 2 episodes of very low sugars one on starlix

and one not..both time I found it difficult to think straight and really

needed his help. He now knows how to test and when to test.

Me too- I hated to eat because I saw what it did to my numbers. I basically

was anorexic (sp?) and felt weak all the time.
