Guest guest
I'm going to ask him to write a prescription for the blood glucose monitor.. I hate to have my finger stuck and I know its going to be very difficult to start but I have to know what my levels are in order to keep my sugar under control Dear Patsy, It doesn't hurt to stick your finger. I was so afraid also but I bought the One Touch Ultra and you can adjust the pin - and it is only the slightest little sting! It is not unpleasant at all!!! Here is a question for everyone - if your doctor writes a prescription for a bg monitor will the insurance pay for it usually? I bought mine over the counter so I don't think a prescription would work. Thanks. Winifred
Guest guest
Patsy, the worst of your carb cravings is probably over by now, and the good news is that low carb eating does lower of lot of the bad cholesterol for a lot of folks. You get used to finger sticking - mostly because it's so neat to get definitive answers as to how what you are eating effects your bs. Good job and good decisions! Barb > I think I have too. My triclycerides have been high too so maybe this diet will bring them down also. When I go to the Doctor Thursday I'm going to ask him to write a prescription for the blood glucose monitor.. Guest guest
Yep, that's the way it works...have the doc write a prescription and as far as I know, that'll get the insurance to pay for it. Of course you can buy it without the prescriiption -- but then you're on your own, as Winifred found out, alas. Also the Ultra works faster, requires less blood than most other meters and is very nice, small and portable in a cute carrying case. Just got mine two weeks ago and I Love It! Guest guest
I was told they would pay for strips but not the monitor- go figure Dear Patsy, It doesn't hurt to stick your finger. Guest guest
Call your insurance company and push them a bit. Blue Cross/Blue Shield will not pay for a meter from a pharmacy (at least my HMO Blue in MA), but they will pay for it via " Durable Medical Supplies " . They order it for you. They paid $145.00 to a company for my 1st FastTake when I could have gotten it for much, much less. wrote: > > I was told they would pay for strips but not the monitor- go figure > > > Dear Patsy, > > It doesn't hurt to stick your finger. Guest guest
Oh, BTW, Winifred, I think there's a thing you can mail in for a refund in the Ultra. Did you see that? Vicki Yes, Vicki!!!!! The Ultra was on sale for $59.99 with a $40 rebate so it only cost $19.99. I bought two - one for me and one for my girlfriend! I love the One Touch Ultra.
