Guest guest
Although I would never consume aspartame, this article is an urban legend (go to www.snopes.com and do a search for aspartame). I only had it a few times when it first came out and it resulted in SEVERE headaches. I ended up being temporarily blinded while driving resulting in a pretty bad car accident. This is how it reacted to me, but it has not been linked to MS or lupus or any other diseases. If you ask a Dr., they will tell you that pregnant women and children under 5 should not have aspartame. It seems to me if it's dangerous for them then it can't be good for anybody, but that is JMHO. Cecelia

On the other hand, neither is Weight Watchers or other support groups such as this one REQUIRED to lose weight. The Point system isn't required, books with programs and information aren't required, exercise isn't required, heck -- even vegetables aren't REQUIRED. My point is that being willing to use something that may, at the very worst, be just a tiny bit bad for you to support you in overcoming something that is definitely very bad for you is probably a reasonable choice to make. After all, I almost got hit by a car yesterday when I was taking my walk. And sometimes, participating in this support group uses up so much time in my day that I don't get my second daily walk done. :-) -:|:-

Guest guest
It sounded like an advertisement for Stevia to me. Honestly, we need to make sure that we research these things before passing them on. www.snopes.com is the best place for checking things before passing them on. Like all health issues, choosing to use artificial sweetners is a personal decision. I choose to because my personal tastes run to sweet things. I prefer Splenda if it's available, but it isn't always. I'm not mainlining the stuff, but I am intelligent enough to make the decision to use it with moderation. I know that we all mean well when passing this stuff on, but it's just like all spam. We need to use our resources, and they are vast with access to the Internet, to make sure we know that what we are passing on is true. Thanks, though, for your concern. We all need to care about each other in this journey. > Re: article on aspartame > that I really wish you would read! > > > > RoswellFan13@... wrote:Someone on another group posted > this....please, please read! *If I accidentally re-sent it to > a group where it has appeared, please > forgive me - - > but, I sent it because I really care. > > According to the article in Woman's Day (Sept. 1st issue, pg. > 34) and Snopes, the claims in the e-mail aren't ture. Guest guest
Well, although I do drink diet soda, and think it has to be healthier than all the sugar in regular, I can't believe anyone really thinks it is particularly healthy! Stevia is well and good, but packs quite the aftertaste, and does not have a wide range of uses. I have been picking up Diet Rite soda, with splenda, as a change of pace... I don't want to drink exclusively water, I guess I need to be more creative with my 0 point beverages! Any ideas?
