Guest guest
Grandma is still in the hospital. Yesterday they sent in a Neurologist that specializes in Dementia. I was there and was able to explain the symptoms we've been seeing and she immediately said that it looks like Lewy Bodies. (I was so relieved to hear her say this.) She immediately made adjustments to med. She did a great job explaining, to the other family, the negative effect that some meds will have on Lewy Body patients. Today she told us that she had received the medical history from her previous doctors. 3 years ago her doctor sent her to a Neuro-Psych doctor. Apparently he made the Lewy Body diagnosis but that information was never relayed to us. The report was sent back to her doctor and my MIL stopped going to that doctor because of his bad bed-side manor. He got angry at them one day and told them they needed to follow his directions and set up a family meeting so he could discuss everything with all of us. (I'm so angry at MIL. Her denial resulted in grandma essentially being poisoned. Ugh. We move forward.) The doctor suggested that we consider moving grandma to a psych unit so that they can continue adjusting her meds until they find something that works for her. She did also explain that we may have to deal with the psychosis recurring every so often. I hadn't heard, or looked much in to that possibility. Anyway, she is optimistic that her current condition will be improved and she may regain some of her physical abilities with the med fix. I'm so glad we have the diagnosis and a doctor who knows how to deal with it!
