Guest guest
Interesting, I thought that Vestibulitis (VV) was pain at the *bottom* the vaginal opening. I have a diagnosis of both, but I am positive that when I first joined this group I was told that VV was at the bottom... I remember b/c someone told me I might have " upside-down " vestibulitis as most of my pain is at the top and that is not the common finding. Of course, that doesn't mean that information was correct, it's just what someone told me, and perhaps they were wrong. Curious. ----- Original Message ----- > Vulvar vestibulitis (vv) is pain on contact only in the area above the > vaginal opening. Guest guest
Here's a link to the Vulva Pain Foundation. This is how they describe vulvodynia and vv :-)http://www.vulvarpainfoundation.org/vpfabout.htm Blessings All! Shirley.
Guest guest
You are right. Vestibulitis is almost always at the bottom of the opening of the vagina. Usually anywhere from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock (if you look at the vagina opening as a clock). I've had Vestibulitis for 12 years and it's from 4 to 8 o'clock. I only have pain with intercourse, but most have pain with any kind of contact. --- " B. Guest guest
My pain is at the 12 and 6 positions, and at the 12 position I have pain a long the area where a piece of skin is attached to that 12 o'clock position and runs down to the cervix. I have strong reason to believe that some of the reason for this pain is b/c of the fact that I also have endometriosis. What I'm wondering now though since I have pain at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and goes a little more into my vagina does that still constitute vulvodynia? My thoughts are that this is the case but I don't know if that is the case. What I do know is that I did have vestibulitis too but now I no longer have that b/c of the fact that the Ceftin that I took for a UTI that I had in Sept of 1999 took care of the vestibulitis. Also, is redness more of an issue with vestibulitis, vulvodynia, or both? I know that when I do get some of the infections that I do (not always yeast-I've not had it in a while thank goodness) that the area is quite red. I'm not sure what to think about some of this. I do know without a doubt that I have vulvodynia b/c my pain also occurs in the left labia minora (not the labia majora, or thighs) and the clitoral hood as well as clitoris. I was also glad to read about the pain that can occur from having a BM b/c for nearly two days I had no pain in my vulvar area and when I went to the bathroom for a BM the other day I had alot of pain afterward, and I'm having pain in that area again. I'm not sure though if the endo is contributing to some of this but what I can say is that prior to the endo trying to recur this time around I didn't have pain in my vulvar area or burn after having a BM. Yes, I do have IBS but that occurred in 1994 and it doesn't bother me too often. What a frustrating thing to live with. Thanks again for this info. ===== Kristy http://www.geocities.com/sokokl/kristyspersonalpage.html __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I wonder what the heck I have then. I have pain at the bottom of the vagina also. One of my gyn's told me that it was where the vestibular glands are. But, you gals keep talking about it hurting when you have sex or upon insertion of a tampon. I don't have that. I can have sex okay. But, the day after, I am very sore and it might last for a few days - in that same area. Sometimes, the whole outer area of the vagina gets red too, though. Also, if I wear jeans or pantyhose, it hurts. So, what is that? Vulvodynia or vestibulitis? Isn't it strange that we suffer from this, but so many of us don't know exactly what we have. Sometimes I feel like it is driving me crazy!!! And one more thing, the Amitriptyline seems to be helping me and I just got the dose raised to 50 mg. Amitriptyline is only supposed to help with certain aspects of vv, right? I was thinking not with vestibulitis. AAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!! --- Levy wrote: > You are right. Guest guest
Hi! My pain seems to be very much like yours. I am very red in the vestibulitis-area, but my pain is all over the vulva. I am on amitryptylene 25 mgs, and it seems to help me!!! I hope it continues to help, because it is wonderful to feel more normal again! /Charlotte > > You are right. Guest guest
Just to let everyone know I was diagnosed with vestibulitis, but I also have rectal pain. Dr. said it is vestibulitis - I have pain all the time but less pain on some days. So I'm not sure what the distinction is then between vulvodynia and vvs. I do know that Dr. said the vestibular glands affect both the rectum and vagina. Also, as far as redness, my doctor said if you have a yeast infection - you will notice redness even if you don't have vv. That is one of the symptoms of an infection. I did hear that people with vulvodynia can even have pain that spreads to their thighs. > > > You are right. Vestibulitis is almost always at > > > the > > > bottom of the opening of the vagina. Guest guest
Hi Mindy - I have been on a little vacation for my son's college graduation and had about 400 messages when I got home!!! Anyway, you said you saw Dr. and he says you have vv and your symptoms are close to mine? The personal part of this that is confusing for me is that I can have sex without any more pain than I usually have. And I keep reading that with vestibulitis, there is pain with sex and tampon insertion (which I also don't have problems with). I have a lot of soreness after sex. And I have pain all the time - mostly burning/irritation, but sometimes just flat out pain. I also think I have a yeast problem, because when I got back to Nebraska (for son's graduation), the very first night I was having terrible pain and some itching. I did the OTC 7-day cream and that really helped. The thing is, I was just on Diflucan 6 weeks ago for yeast. So, I'm wondering...did I ever get over that yeast infection or was this a new one. I keep thinking all of this may have started with yeast. I probably need to call my gyn, because I also found a tiny bump/lump along one side of my vagina. This is freaking me out. I can't tell if it is outside the vaginal tissue or inside. Anyone else ever found one of these bumps????
